Editorial: UC Berkeley wise to research right-wing movements
MediaNews via CoCoTimes ^ | 3/13/9 | Editor

AT A TIME WHEN the nation has turned to the left, one of the more liberal universities in the nation will be studying right-wing movements. Although the timing is odd, investigation of the right is a welcome academic pursuit.

Thanks to an anonymous $777,000 donation a Center for the Comparative Study of Right-wing Movements will be established at UC Berkeley. Researchers will analyze right-wing groups in the United States and abroad and compare them.

Larry Rosenthal, a sociologist who will oversee the center, is on target in saying that conservative movements have been overlooked in academia, which tends to be populated by left-leaning professors. University studies generally have focused on liberal movements.

. . .

More research about right-wing groups is long overdue. In many national polls over the past few decades, more Americans consider themselves conservative than liberal, although they may disagree on what it is to be conservative.

We trust that the center will be comprehensive and objective in its study of right-wing movements and will be able to shed light on their diversity of thought as well as the impact they have had on policies in the United States and abroad.

I trust that they'll be just as "objective" as a John Birch Society group investigating "left wing" groups. I'm sure we could bunch together the violent weather underground and somehow paint everyday dems with the same brush. That's what they'll be doing.

As a former member, I have the JBS's four-volume Biographical Dictionary of the Left. It has articles on everyone from Eugene V. Debs and Robert F. Williams to Henry Kissinger and Lyndon Johnson.

What do they mean by “right” wing.

KKK is filled with left voting Mexicans and “former” white liberals

Black gangstas in government continue to trash moderate blacks who do not wear their favorite swastika like tatoos and ways of cursing.

And the list goes on to include gays and other groups (liberal) seeking sacrifice altars for their every problem and satisfaction in getting away with murder, abortion “girls” and pedophiles out there notwithstanding.

Trust me - you'll never see some JBS book quoted in the New York Times, ( unless they're mocking it) but you will see this liberal hit piece quoted forever by the liberal suck-up press.

Want to make some bets on how Berkeley's hit piece will be treated?

Group think is alive and well...

I am sure their research will be fair and balanced. Conservatives are not some kind of animal to be studied like rats. Unbelievable.

Here is an idea for a start: Have a look at the German neo-Nazi party NPD: Sure, they are against immigration, but other than that they agree with the communist party Die Linke on pretty much every single point, including their love for socialism, and their fanatical hatred for America and Israel…

So now we are getting the academics out looking for members of the VRWC (Vast Right Wing Conspiracy). Gee, I can hardly wait for a clear even-handed look at such well known groups as John Birch, American National Socialists, KKK and other upstanding main street conservatives. /sarc

You get the idea that having this done at Kalifornia Universities does not fill me with confidence.

Soros. Rich and a former Nazi.

Former? I suspect that "current" is a better word.

Yeah, studying the subversiveness of following the Constitution will be the new “in” thing.

Too late. It happened during the Clinton administration when the Phoenix office of the FBI put out a pamphlet stating:
If you encounter any of the following, Call the Joint Terrorism Task Force: defenders of the US Constitution against federal government and the UN

[Go here for the entire list and pictures]

People may not want to believe it, but it happened. They even held a press conference because of it. One of the officials stated it was accidentally released too early!

There was a lot of chatter on FR about it. I'll see if I can dig up a thread.

Interesting; but if you’ll recall, at the time, there was some degree of publicity as to well-armed “survivalist” groups who were seen as whacked-out race-war leftovers from Y2K, and, there was furthermore an association of these type groups with the Murrah bombing in OK city. Of course, the mention of “UN” in the group name (and I’ll bet most Americans still view the UN today as an entirely altruistic organization with lofty goals etc; etc) I say this because it’s sort an interesting thought as to how these groups were thought of at the time.

In the case of UC Berkeley studying conservative groups or conservatism, I have not the slightest doubt that this will take shape along Alinsky lines: Isolate & ridicule > discredit.

In the course of their “study”,

they’ll set the definition for “conservative”

and then show how those who fit the definition are

dumb and dangerous and should be locked up for the good of society.

Trust away but be prepared for an avalanche of studies of lunatic fringe wackoes which have nothing to do with right wing politics as it is understood by adults.

Have to get the resisters’ names, addresses, pictures and family information out there and in a database somewhere now, don’t we.

Good little fascists there, Berkeley. Leftists have such information, too. All of them.

An anonymous 770,000 donation, huh? I’m guessing George Soros, who seems to have plenty of money to throw at left-wing pursuits.
