Steele Hammered by Republicans for 'Choice' Slip
Fox News ^ | 3/12/09 | Fox News

A day after a magazine quoted him as saying abortion was "an individual choice," GOP Chairman Michael Steele may soon be toast.

A leading conservative called Steele's remarks in the magazine "cavalier and flippant," underscoring the new chairman's precarious position with party regulars concerned about his off-the-cuff style and penchant for miscues.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee called the remarks "very troubling" and said in a blog posting, "despite his clarification today the party stands to lose many of its members and a great deal of its support in the trenches of grass-roots politics. For Chairman Steele to even infer that taking a life is totally left up to the individual is not only a reversal of Republican policy and principle, but it's a violation of the most basic of human rights -- the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

It is time for Steele to step down. He is creating a mess and the Democrats are having a field day. They are salivating at the sight of Republicans publicly "demonstrating" intolerance by getting rid of Steele.

Steele has made a huge mess of things and has added to our already considerable woes. It is time for him to do the only honorable thing possible that is left - resign now.

Make Ken Blackwell the RNC Chair. Steele is a disaster!

I’ll have to say that Steele makes a good RINO.

Bill Bennett often has Steele as guest host.

Today, though , it is Rick Santorum.

I’d have to say that it would be far easier to teach Ken Blackwell the communication skills of Michael Steele than to teach Steele the core values of Blackwell.

Does this idiot Steele realize that the purpose of abortion is to eliminate his own race?

The RNC sent a letter begging for money. What they’ll receive back is their letter with many notations in the margins, including questioning Steele’s pro-choice stance. When will the RNC get ther act together?

“Bill Bennett often has Steele as guest host.”

You’re right. That makes me even more nervous about Steele.

Former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, who supported Steele's bid for chairman, responded to the interview by saying: "Chairman Steele needs to reread the Bible, the U.S. Constitution and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work -- or get out of the way."

The biggest problem with getting rid of Steele will be the media's racist pot stirring if he's removed or steps down on his own. Either way the GOP will be once again tagged with the racist line for throwing over a black in favor of a white.

Steele isn't the biggest mistake, that came from electors who gave him the seat in the 6th round of voting.

Amen and amen! If I have to vote for someone who has no chance of winning at least give me someone with whom I agree and can stand up for. Not the case with RINO McCain. I realized a few days ago that we would have been better to have fielded a true conservative and lost than we were to field McCain and lost. Wasting your vote on a sure loser and voting for someone with whom you don't agree are two completely separate things.

We've got to run a true conservative and if we lose then at least we have a base to build on. Right now we lost and in the process we screwed the conservative cause.

I want a candidate that give me a list, on paper, of what he or she stands for and exactly what they will do in office. Also on the list would be the names of people who will be appointed to posts in the administration. Not necessarily by so-and-so for such-an-such a position, but a list of the people that will be chosen. Names like John Bolton, Ollie North, etc. If you don't like the stand or the people that's OK, vote for the other side. But at least those of us who support the ticket/team will be spared the anguish of being forced to vote for someone we knew would lose and who stood for things with which we didn't agree.

Slip? Hardly! It was a very telling exposure of his core beliefs or lack thereof.

The Life of an unborn child is not a “choice” individual or otherwise, it’s a Life you IDIOT.

This man brings nothing of value to the (R) party leadership, he should leave quietly before he does irreparable harm.
