Schoen & Rasmussen: Obama's poll numbers are falling to earth
The Wall Street Journal ^ | March 13, 2009 | Douglas Schoen & Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 03/12/2009 9:05:10 PM PDT by St. Louis Conservative

It is simply wrong for commentators to continue to focus on President Barack Obama's high levels of popularity, and to conclude that these are indicative of high levels of public confidence in the work of his administration. Indeed, a detailed look at recent survey data shows that the opposite is most likely true. The American people are coming to express increasingly significant doubts about his initiatives, and most likely support a different agenda and different policies from those that the Obama administration has advanced.

Polling data show that Mr. Obama's approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama's net presidential approval rating -- which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve -- is just six, his lowest rating to date.

Overall, Rasmussen Reports shows a 56%-43% approval, with a third strongly disapproving of the president's performance. This is a substantial degree of polarization so early in the administration. Mr. Obama has lost virtually all of his Republican support and a good part of his Independent support, and the trend is decidedly negative.

A detailed examination of presidential popularity after 50 days on the job similarly demonstrates a substantial drop in presidential approval relative to other elected presidents in the 20th and 21st centuries. The reason for this decline most likely has to do with doubts about the administration's policies and their impact on peoples' lives.

There is also a clear sense in the polling that taxes will increase for all Americans because of the stimulus, notwithstanding what the president has said about taxes going down for 95% of Americans. Close to three-quarters expect that government spending will grow under this administration.

The time is ripe for a Republican to articulate a alternative vision, and to do so in a manner that appeals to independents and solid Democrats.

Obamao just gave the rhetorical finger to a CEO conference in DC that centered on taxes.

Yup. And blocking the proposed “cradle to career” education expansion (50% longer federalized education than the current system) would sure be nice.

No one wants to be the first one to smite the Numinous Negro.

Rush has done this, to the lasting benefit of the nation.

Once the first blow lands and lightning doesn’t strike anyone down, the rest will attack freely.

And this is why the thugs of Big Brother have launched a Two Minute Hate campaign against Rush. He can bring down the whole house of cards if he isn't stopped.

But Rush isn’t elected—that’s the difference between him and actual politician Republicans.

I caught it on the radio, he said something like:

“And that will be the rate, you’ll have to (deal with it) and try to make money (at that tax rate)”

He did mention something about maybe lowering the corporate tax rate, not that he would, only that he would look into doing so.

A lot of those who voted for him, are now questioning their decision already!

Afterall, they thought they'd have a mortgage check & car payment in the mail the first week after he was inaugurated! LOL LOL

Years ago, there had been no black major league baseball managers yet. Somebody said, “No problem hiring the first black manager, but I wouldn’t want to be the first one who fired him!”

I keep hearing liberals and moderates tell me to just wait, it’s only his first few days in office. I’m like, yeah just wait and see how bad it gets.

Close to three-quarters expect that government spending will grow under this administration.

Meaning more than a quarter of Americans polled are TOTALLY clueless.

Americans will exert their will upon their elected officials, the wills of the MAJORITY.*****

I agree with you 4Speed. The true American majority is finally being stirred up by this complete incompetent fool and his cronies who are now terrorizing our lives. It’s high time we put an end to this mess once and for all.

....and the more well off liberals I know are now showing some regret.

They liked all the socialist ideas of the Great “O”, but they didn't think he would really try and do them ALL in his first 100 days. I think they expected the Clinton approach of good speeches and no action.

Now they look at their investments and shake their heads.

Republicans need to quit being so timid. We're not going to stop his insane socialist agenda if we play with kid gloves.

Bears repeating.

Hey Steele: are you listening???

now we just have to get someplace other than FNC to quote a poll from Rasmussen and we start the inevitable destruction of the Obama Invincibility Myth.
