Just 27% of voters nationwide favor passage of a second economic stimulus package. The latest Rasmussen Reports nationwide telephone survey found that 55% are opposed and 19% are not sure.
Despite the public opposition, 74% say its likely that Congress will try to pass another stimulus plan before the year is out. That figure includes 45% who say its Very Likely that Congress will do so.
These results come at a time when consumer and investor confidence continue to hover around record lows. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday that she is open to consideration of a second stimulus bill, but that its too early to determine the size and timing of such a package.
Forty-three percent (43%) of Democrats favor a second stimulus package while 32% are opposed. Republicans oppose the concept by an 8-to-1 margin. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 59% are opposed to a second stimulus plan while 23% are in favor of it.
While Republicans are most opposed to a second stimulus plan, they are also the most likely to believe Congress will try to pass one. Eighty-five percent (85%) of Republicans say that Congress will try for another stimulus plan this year along with 71% of unaffiliated voters and 66% of Democrats (Premium Members can see crosstabs).
Overall, voters are evenly divided in their reaction to President Obamas proposed budget, but 75% are concerned it will lead to too much government spending. Following the Presidents nationally televised speech to Congress, voters rated the objectives laid out by Obama and considered deficit reduction to be the most important. Voters also considered that goal the least likely to be achieved.
Public expectations for the first stimulus bill are fairly evenly divided between those who say it will help, those who say it will hurt, and those who say it will have no impact.
Most Americans say it will take at least three years for the stock market and the housing market to recover from the current economic crunch. On the downside 53% say its at least somewhat likely that the country will enter a Depression, during the next few years.
Polling released earlier this week showed that just 23% of Americans believe the government today reflects the will of the American people. Following passage of the first stimulus bill, just 19% of Americans believed that Congress had passed any legislation that would improve their lives.
27%. Same number of people who say that they have been abducted by aliens.
LOL
Unfortunately, some members of that 27% now occupy Congress.
Since when did what 75% of the public think matter to Congress?
President Zero and his merry band of gay blades have seen to it via the "stimulus" that the welfare deadbeat class is now in the majority.
It remains to be seen if they are so lazy and slothful that they will not get off their fat ass and go vote. If they do go vote...America is toast, headed toward Zimbabwe status.
If, on the other hand, they cannot get out of bed, or they are too drunk, or too stoned, or just too lazy and can't find an ACORN to come pick them up, America just may survive...that is if the former "silent majority" gets off their ass and go vote.
2010 will tell....if there is another great 'rat "victory" then we will slide into the socialist hell hole, where there is a shortage of everything.....except misery.
....which would possibly trigger the only other 'hope".....THE extraordinary remedy....CWII.
Long live the Republic of Texas!....
“Since when did what 75% of the public think matter to Congress?”
Quite apparently not since 2006, maybe longer.
If they had done the first stimulus package correctly there wouldnt be a need for another one. This just shows how incompetent the Obama administration as well as the democrat controlled Congress really is.
There is an easy way for the Dims to get around this. Pelosi will amend the 2009-2010 Federal Budget to include another stimulus package.
A democratic mandate!
