This correction was printed on page 2 of the Wall Street Journal on March 5, 2009, and made me feel like I had slipped into an Orwellian world of “newspeak.” You know, the language being promoted by the ruling elites of England in Orwell’s book 1984. Newspeak is closely based on English but has a greatly reduced and simplified vocabulary and grammar whose aim is to make any alternative thinking impossible by removing any words or possible constructs which describe the ideas of freedom, rebellion and so on. . . .

I’ve seen that. Was very annoyed by a WSJ article last week that noted that the intent of “card check” was to make voting easier than “secret ballot.” Gee, why don’t we conduct our elections that way too?
Society generally now falls into newspeak regarding firearms, and TOBACCO, they tried that with Alcohol and it didn’t work.
I guess they’ll try with alcohol again later.
Aren’t machine guns, sub-machine guns and machine pistols totally outlawed for commerce and civilian use? How could anyone be getting their hands on them for shipment to Mexico? Or anywhere else, for that matter?
Now, if these are semi-automatic, magazine-fed rifles, there are far fewer restrictions placed on that class of hand-held weaponry, but still the commercial transactions are subject to considerable overview.
This is double-plus ungood.
Again, it is a question of not needing any more laws, but enforcing the ones already on the books. And there is a strange and continuing reluctance to do just that, with eyes averted and feigned ignorance at critical moments.
There’s also an entire Newspeak vocabulary for race, immigration, homosexuality, crime and punishment, etc.
“People of color”, “undocumented immigrant”, “gay”, “social justice”.
Basically Newspeak is the language of political correctness, and political correctness is the vocabulary of Newspeak.

There is also a fingerprint/background check/$200 tax/police chief permission/month’s long wait required to buy one if you find a willing seller.
No. There is a federal permit required though. While I'm not sure of the details, you can legally own a full auto if you pay the fees and get the permit.

CORRECT! In fact it was recently determined (like 5-10 years ago) that their was an actual Red plant arranging the news and headline placement there at the WSJ - a real live Commie! Still, its editorial page makes it the best paper in America. And remembr!

I think it is here, too-just not to the same degree. Modern Americans would get pretty upset, if you took away their bread and circuses.

That’s true. I had a “discussion” with a liberal at work and she kept on trotting out the WSJ as an example of a conservative newspaper that was strongly in support of strict gun control, and that’s exactly what I told her in response: “Show me where and when the WSJ’s editorial page has taken a strong conservative stance on anything other than SOME financial matters; hell, it even supports illegal immigration.” I’m still waiting for her to show me, and that was almost two years ago.
The Wall Street Journal used to be a great paper, swimming upstream against the liberal bias of the rest of the MSM. They gradually gave in and became what they had proudly stood up against. I stopped reading the WSJ some time ago.
I don’t know about others, but am so sick of hearing “politically correct” why don’t we call it what it is “speech Nazi’s”
Of course if they're new "machineguns" then there's a more serious problem here that the media is NOT reporting. Due to the FOPA of 1986, civilians are NOT allowed to own any Class 2 firearms manufactured after 1986: That's one of the reasons that the cost of civilian ownership has skyrocketed. If these new weapons are being sold to the drug cartels, that means that they're NOT coming from civilian stocks... Which means that either law enforcement or military dealers are the ones selling the weapons. Or they may be stolen from LE or military. Either way, this is a very bad thing. And it's something that the media SHOULD be investigating.

No they aren't. I could purchase a full auto machine gun manufactured prior to 1986. All I need is something north of $14,000, paper work from my local sheriff and a $200 ATF stamp. The reason for the high price is scarcity. You can't purchase any full auto manufactured after 1986. The ATF won't permit it. The consequence is a dwindling number of available, serviceable full auto firearms.
The Mexicans aren't legally acquiring these pricey, rare, full auto machine guns in the U.S. and taking them across the border. They are getting them from other countries. The media spin is designed to demonize the sale of legal semi-auto rifles in the United States so the Democrats have an excuse to enact another sweeping firearms ban. The WSJ is no better than any of the other complicit media in falsely demonizing the firearms industy and owners in the United States. They keep sending me "deals" to subscribe. I keep deleting them. I won't support people who are helping the enemy (gun grabbers).
With the money available to the drug cartels, they can easily afford to purchase full automatic weapons on the world market. There is a huge market of auto weapons, RPG, grenades, etc available, especially with cash is not much of an issue.
No need, Mr. Holder, to impose new gun laws on law abiding Americans, to slow gun traffic to Mexico. The drug cartels can buy loads from the old soviet countries.
I’ve spent almost the entire day sizing and trimming a batch of brand new 7 x 57 brass. I guess the word for that in newspeak would be “selflife.” Screw the gun grabbers. I will not be loyal to a government that will not respect the US Constitution. I will regard any citizen who would support that government as my enemy.
