Barack Obama 'too tired' to give proper welcome to Gordon Brown
The London Telegraph ^ | March 7, 2009 | Tim Shipman

Posted on 03/07/2009 12:16:38 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president has facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.

But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. "I think it's right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn't quite understand the British concerns and didn't get what that was all about."

This is the first time I have ever heard anyone other than my father use that term!

You're very welcome indeed.

And a footnote: the paper took its name from what was at the time an astounding technological advance in two-way communications. If it had been founded two or three years ago it might have been called the Daily Blackberry.

Sorry, I didn’t know that the entire world of journalism now revolved around one story involving an unnamed source thirty-some-odd years ago ..... JustaDumbBlonde

Why do you find it so desirable to be rude to someone that disagrees with you? I have made every attempt to be civil and you have taken every opportunity to insult. .... JustaDumbBlonde

TRANSLATION: My sarcasm is perfectly acceptable. After all it is MY sarcasm. However, the sarcasm of anybody that challenges me is "rude". Challenging me is just.... well .... just "RUDE"!!"

Heat.

Kitchen.

If you can't stand it.

Get out.

As I have repeatedly explained to you:

The President of the United States will not be challenged IN PUBLIC, BY NAME by members of his own Administration. That is the way it is now. That is the way it has been in the past. That is the way it will be in the future.

Obama is being challenged by unnamed sources in his own Administration.

I'm sorry that's not good enough for you but that is the way it works in the United States of America on the Planet Earth.

Deal with it.

"As I have repeatedly explained to you:"

I was done with you, but since you've brought it up ... yes, you are so damned busy repeating yourself that you don't realize someone else might have another opinion.

Our "discussion" was over some time ago. Have a good evening.

Maybe if he hadn’t been throwing parties every other day, he’d have a little more energy.

Barack Obama is quickly reducing himself to a figurehead. The President’s executive functions and policymaking is all going to be delegated to people we don’t really know while Obama signs bills and does photo-ops. That actually might not be such a bad thing...

Not such a bad thing until everyone realizes that a Bill Ayers or George Soros is actually the one running the show...

Had it carted down the street to the British Embassy in D.C., I believe.
No idea whether it's still there.

Yes, that is a repeat but, since it did not dovetail with your opinion the first time I posted it, you threw a temper tantrum.

FR is a political forum. If you can't defend your positions and get insulted when they are challenged, maybe you should consider a forum where they discuss the weather.

You will not get members of the Administration of a sitting President to allow themselves to be quoted by name when they criticize a sitting President.

That is not only the way it is in Washington, DC, that is also plain, old common sense.

If you find somebody telling you that "insulting", well, as I said, maybe there is a forum on the Internet that discusses the weather.

Those days are over, at least for the next 4 years. Our new allies, France, Germany, and soon to be Syria.

Yes, you are correct. I do tend to retreat to the Reagan-Thatcher days as often as I possibly can...

Wait...there were some idiots mentioning that the position of POTUS for Zer0 would be a step down? I say we fire his arse now and give him a severance package...small price to pay for saving trillions later. Let him step down all the way back to Chicago.

<If a magic genie offered to have Bill Clinton replace Obama in the White House if I walked from Seattle to Miami, I would do it and I would kiss Bubba’s feet when I got there.

That’s one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time. Sad to say, I might do the walk with you. Even sadder, I’ve had many days when I pray to wake up from this nightmare and have Hillary as president. God help me...

Then, may I suggest, stop responding to my posts and stop responding to this thread.

The vast majority of FReepers on this thread are discussing Obama's failures in office. That is the focus of this thread.

Your focus is to be whining because the British article did not name sources because you believe that politicians in Washington should commit hari kari when they dish out dirt on a sitting President although Washington does not now function that way nor has it ever functioned that way.

The issues that "interest" you are not the issues of this thread.

So, move along and find a thread, other than this one, that "interests" you.

I know how you feel. Only, when I wake up, it's President Romney.

Ha-ha-ha! I'm going to sleep now, so, Romney haters, don't bother to reply...

He’s already pissed off Poland, the Czech Republic and now England in his first 6 weeks in office, and made an ass out of himself towards Russia. What’s next? And don’t think I’m forgetting the Mea Culpas to the Middle Eastern press.

The way President Bush and his family have been treated will remain a black mark against this country for many years to come, IMHO.

That’s one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time. Sad to say, I might do the walk with you.

What is even sadder is that I was actually thinking, "How would I actually do it?"

"It would be better to start NOW and hike south down the I-5 corridor since it would still be too dangerous to hike over the Cascades this far north during Winter weather. Waiting until warmer weather comes would waste too much time. I would need to get to Miami and get Obama out of the White House as soon as possible."

We are living in truly dangerous times.

That would be an excellent name for the first 100% conservative news report.
