Barack Obama 'too tired' to give proper welcome to Gordon Brown
The London Telegraph ^ | March 7, 2009 | Tim Shipman

Posted on 03/07/2009 12:16:38 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president has facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.

But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. "I think it's right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn't quite understand the British concerns and didn't get what that was all about."

Elizabeth Windsor is nobody’s fool. She might even borrow a leaf from the Pope and tell the Mutt what B-16 told Speaker Nasty: “No photo-op for you!” — and then let Fleet Street, which still has remnants of fondness for the Monarch, run with the Palace press release while Zero’s head is still spinning.

Trust me, it’s not something I’d enjoy...but I would be less anxious!

No wonder he's exhausted. That's a lot of good will to spread around in five weeks.

And what's really scary is that Nancy Pelosi is next after him.

Only if Obama and Biden are taken out together.

If Biden becomes president, he nominates a new VP, who would then be ahead of Pelosi in succession.

Now, if Biden becomes president and is taken out before his VP is confirmed...< /tinfoil>

It’s not $90 million, it’s $900 million he wants to give to Hamas.

I was going to put Gordon Brown and some others on the other sofa. Wish I hadda’.

You could add a nanny tucking him in with his favorite blankie and teddy bear.

Wow,My son just came home from a 36 hour shift on the fire department which was non stop and a few hours sleep in between. Most of us have done this at one time or another.Pathetic excuse.

In medical school, in the Trauma Surgery rotation, we worked, in Teams called "Trauma A" and "Trauma B", 30-36 hours on, 18-12 hours off, 30-36 hours on, 18-12 hours off, for an entire month in the County hospital of a major metropolitan city with a very active Knife & Gun Club.

We were constantly on the move for those 30-36 hours and never slept once. We were responsible for the surgery and post op care for every single trauma case that rolled in from 7:00 AM one morning until 6:59 AM the next morning.

When we reported to the rotation, the Chief Resident barked at us, "You know what's so bad about about being responsible for every single trauma surgery case for 24 hours straight every other day for an entire month?"

"Ummm .... No, Dr. Wilson. What?"

"YOU MISS HALF THE CASES!!!"

“Yeah, there was a reason that President Bush went to bed early.”

Exactly. “Cool” liberals thought it was because he was a fuddy duddy when really he was just interested in doing a good job. I think of liberals as little kids who have no idea what dad does to put food on the table.

“If a magic genie offered to have Bill Clinton replace Obama in the White House if I walked from Seattle to Miami, I would do it and I would kiss Bubba’s feet when I got there. “

Oh Dear God help me now, but I am in total agreement with you.

You should see the cringing look on my face while typing that sentence.

He's making many of the same mistakes of the 39th president. He's trying to do it all, to make his mark. He's running a sprint not a marathon.

This is not a wise man, and is a man who has never been told "no" and never faced real hardship. He thinks very highly of himself, and this ego is reinforced by the rockstar treatment he has receieved from the voices of public disourse aka the MSM. Correct me if I'm wrong about any of this, but he is not a veteran of a foreign war, never served in the military, and except for percieved (and perhaps real) racial slights that are a regrettable though rapidly decreasing reality for minorities, has never experienced true character-building hardship.

His outlook is myopic, focused primarily on urban concerns and the plight of the downtrodden. That is important, to be sure! I want a president with empathy, with a heart for those with no voice or no power. But a president's outlook must be from 30,000 feet, not ground level. A president's temporal outlook must be scalable, seeing both one day ahead and 50 years ahead.

With all due respect to the man, and wishing him well personally (but not his agenda!) I do not believe President Obama has the wisdom or experience for the office, and was elected under foolish and shallow pretense.

His treatment of PM Brown is simply an indicator of this.

Yes. "the economic meltdown"  He's exhausted with trying to find ways to hose the taxpayers.  Someone needs to ask that dumbass why this is in the stimulus and just how this will help.....

$1.7 million for PIG ODOR RESEARCH in Iowa, $2 million for the PROMOTION OF ASTRONOMY in Hawaii, $475,000 for a PARKING GARAGE  in Provo City, Utah, $300,000 to build a Montana WORLD TRADE CENTER, and $150,000 for a RODEO MUSEUM in South Dakota. "
