The Evolution of Creationism and Other Intangibles

March 6, 2009 — If you are a creationist, you can’t help yourself, because evolution made you that way. It might have also made you moral and religious, especially if you are a woman. These and other evolutionary stories are making the rounds...

And global warming is being credited for causing colder temperatures.

Sometimes I feel like I am living in a bad science fiction movie.

You don't insert a sic when the misspelling is yours. That's like putting quote marks around your own words, or signing your posts with, "he said."

I don't think it's a genuine misspelling. Red is just trying to draw attention to a witticism.

Although it's a bit insulting to assume we wouldn't notice it, if it is really felt necessary the correct form is:

"Evilution (nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, know what I mean)..."

Hilarious commentary on the source site.

. . . ."See what happens when storytellers are allowed into the science lab? This makes Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs sound scholarly. Contest: see if you can top this. Make up the wackiest theory for the origin of life you can, and see if you can get Space.com to publish it. Tell them you’re an astrobiologist. You could be one, too, because the only job requirements are life membership in the Darwin Party and a vivid imagination." . . .

I don't see anything here that attacks the validity of the study in a scientific manner.

The study found that people tend to look for purpose, and that was regardless of their religious beliefs. An interpretation of the result was that this desire to see purpose could be related to Intelligent Design (which can be summed up as a desire to see purpose in evolution).

The study found that people tend to look for purpose

We are, after all, pattern recognition machines. We look for patterns in the audible and visual spectrums, and also by touch, smell and taste. In that sense, Evo's and Creo's are the same. It's the explanation of the arrival of the patterns that causes all of the fuss.

While one can see, and sometimes point out, patterns in clouds that are completely random, when we see writing in the clouds, such as the english words "EAT AT JOES", we all recognize that the observed pattern was not random, but was created by an intelligence.

DNA, the most complex pattern known to man, causes the creationist to conclude that it was designed by intelligence. (due its complexity, information carrying sequences, and the obvious examples of organsims that are built from it's instructions). Evolutionist see only random patterns built up over aeons of time, naturally selected, that leads to complexity that only has the "appearance" of intelligent design.

I think you pretty much summed it up. Although:

"EAT AT JOES", we all recognize that the observed pattern was not random, but was created by an intelligence.

That's because we have assigned meaning to that specific pattern, and an intelligence is using that mutually recognized pattern to communicate. This is a very basic example, but it's to get the point across: I see the following shape in nature I think nothing of it.

The ancient Egyptians would see it as a representing a pestle because they have assigned meaning to the shape.
