Milton Friedman responsible for deaths. Now there’s a big lie. Milton Friedman tried to educate people regarding slavery of all kinds.
Wow, that person is way off base. They really need to read Milton Friedman.
Serious to them I guess.
I took a bit of time to read over some of their comments and found a few people actually talking sense—the ones who spoke out to defend our right to speak freely, to disagree. A few of them actually pointed out the hypocrisy of their attitudes and comments and noted they had also been rather harsh towards Bush.
Many of the hostiles were emphatically claiming the same opposition to us as we claim against them (Fascism, authoritarianism, blindly following our leaders, fear, anger, ignorance, low IQs, etc.). It’s clearly obvious that they employ the same tactics against us, sometimes accusing us of the very things we accuse them of, and neither of us can see the hypocrisy in any of it.
The seething undercurrent of hostilities toward each other is palpable and the blindness to any merits of the opposition is growing. As long as we draw lines in the sand and point at our opponents with accusatory fingers for atrocities many of which we practice ourselves, all the while ignoring the lunacy of each of our dogmatic extremist positions, we are headed straight for at least an ideological ‘civil war’.
In order to be effective at persuasion, one must always learn what the opponent believes and understand it so you can argue against it. Republicans and conservatives need to take the high road, and not the base path the democrats and liberals (progressives?) have chosen by using ad hominem attacks and foul language to ‘prove a point.’ For the most part, we don’t employ those tactics here at Free Republic. Occasionally I cringe when I read a post that borders on sophomoric name calling or baseless accusations. By and large, however, when I read comments by liberals on other sites, or read the list of comments on the Daily Kos, I see such anger and ignorance that they aren’t worth the energy expended to read them.
I believe the request we make here is not to silence anyone. But let us always take the high road, the one of logic, not propaganda. Let us use reasoning, not rhetoric. Let us be credible in our words and our passion, not radical and irrational. We are the lovers of the constitution, the words of the founders and the framers. I would hope that we can use their examples as a guide for our passionate expression of our beliefs, and avoid the nonsensical garbage that so often flows so freely from the other side.
Let’s be better than them, because we are and because we can.
Prove it.
I hear Daily Kos has been sinking in the ratings lately of importance. Do you think this has anything to do with it?
If anyone threatens the President or advocates violence against the President on FR, I believe they can be prosecuted.
______________
I think we need to post the text and names of all on DU that threatened Bush.
Well. of course they ARE raving lunitics. Not the Secret Service
but the ones now in charge...and their minions in the DU and Err Amerika!
Hope you have a Plan B! :D
For the other freepers I want it noted that listenhillary is lying about me and I have called upon her to apologize or put up the evidence.
I tried looking at your posting history, but I had to give up after 8,000 pages of American Idol posts.
0-6, Self incrimination from the suspect herself.
You gotta ask yourself why someone would lie and attack another poster and use anonymity to try to laugh it off. I posted some serious info here and you come along with a ridiculous dishonest personal attack.
You need help.
Just in case, people should start looking for and keeping printing (in case scrubbed) all posts from KOS & DU & other sites where Bush, et al., were threatened, insulted, mocked, etc. Called “evidence.” Preserve the evidence. Start now. Go look. Don’t just save the link. Print it (can print to electronic doc that can be saved online — don’t need to print to paper.
Your right, I’m confusing you with someone else. You’re the one privately contacting freepers via freepmail to solicit business for your wife who is dealing whole life insurance for old reliable, old crusty’s insurance company or something like that.
The original point was that you confirmed the DU’s finding of an inflammatory remark posted on FR. Are YOU doing what you can to report these to the moderators when you run across them? Do you realize how hard it is to catch these with a 100 percent success rate?
Because you confirmed their reports of an inflammatory remark, do you think Free Republic should be shut down? You seemed to take delight in pointing it out.
Do you contribute to Free Republic, or do you just use it to drum up sales for your real estate and your wife’s insurance business?
Your first line is incorrect. I do not regularly do that unless a person has indicated an interest, as you did. But say whtever you want to try to cover for your attack. And thanx for the free advertising.
I don't go around advertising and soliciting. I gave you information when you were looking. And now that you're caught attacking someone, all of a sudden I'm wrong. So thanx for the ingratitude.
I didn't confirm anything. I followed the link the owner posted. Then I pointed out what the other poster missed.Do you get paid to stalk peopole by making up lies or do you do it for free?
You might note my great big ad for my wife's business in my FR page.
You have the future in your hands. Let it go or I'll point out your next lies, sorry mistakes.
I don't know what your beef with me is, but you started it tonight and you were wrong. Now just exacerbate it by continuing your personal attack or go away and so will I.
You have no idea what America is dealing with. Imprecations for logic over rhetoric works only on those who listen to reason, or value it. The liberal fascists do neither.
The Obama government is about preservation of power at any cost. Our forefathers, those exemplary ones who were members of the Sons of Liberty did not cower and grovel in the face of those who would diminish their liberties.Nor did they talk reason. They organized, they met government subterfuge with their own subterfuge, and by seizing the hearts of men who would remain free, prevailed. And that is now a task that falls to us. And we are just beginning. There is no safe haven from such tyranny, either you fight it where you meet it, and insist on your unbridled freedom, or it will be lost.
The same goes for shutting down Rush Limbaugh and talk radio. No force which Obama would field would prevent the usurpation of the Obama government by men of free will and action, if he did that.
Obama needs to learn his place, for the American people are sovereign in this nation. If he needs a demonstration of that fact. Then millions of us are quite prepared to show him.
I care not if the " SS" shuts down free Republic. That would be a gift that would inflame such opposition to Obama that he would be forced to accelerate his evolution of America into a fascist state.
And he would be stopped,in his tracks.
No, the Sons of Liberty did not employ reason against tyranny, for they knew that reason is not an effective tool aganst tyranny.
The weapons that work are humor, and ridicule, and swift action where tyranny is imposed.
Bring on your tyranny Obama. It would be the greatest gift to conservatives in half a Century.
And erkyl, you should not assume that Freepers are generally an ilogical lot, incapable of reasoned debate. We were that, and now we must form an active resistance against a petty tyrant. This is not any longer where mere ideas are enchanged in a test of superiority over fascist thought. This is a place where conservatives achieve community resolve to defend and protect their liberties and the Constitution.
We had best get on with it, and stop crowing and cowing like a bunch of dogs in fear of a Masters whip. I have no master in Obama. And I fear not his tyranny, for it would unite America against him as nothing else could.
And such censorshio would damn him forever in the eyes of those who would rather be free than eat, and would rather risk life and limb than lick the tyrants hand.
Now you should know what game is afoot. And if you want a reasoned argument that illustrates that fact read this:
No, they don’t need to read Milton Friedman.
They need to see a Psychiatrist.
Don’t let those idiots scare you. They are deathly afraid of the truth, and are desperate to silence anyone who dare speak it. Their hysteria is proof positive of one thing:
FR IS EFFECTIVE.
Keep fighting the good fight, Jim.
Well said. You used passionate and reasonable discourse to argue your point. I agree wholeheartedly with the content of your post.
And, as a point of clarification, I did not accuse FReepers of being an illogical lot—quite the contrary. I said we needed to avoid using the baser path used by the liberals, dims and progressives of propaganda, ad hominems and empty rhetoric. And, I noted that, for the most part, we did.
I do not think, however, the days of reasoned discourse and dissent are without their positive effect. While I agree the tide will turn should we come under a tyrannical fist, in these early days of planning and preparation, in my humble opinion, we should still be about battling for the hearts and minds of reasonable people. Those who voted for Obama for ideological perceptions are now awakening to the harsh, cold realities of what his rhetoric truly meant. Those are the ones who won the election for him, and if we can avoid shooting ourselves in our figurative feet, we could perhaps win them over in the arena of ideas.
Bottom line: most Americans do not want the kind of world these extremist left-wingers are promoting. Most are centrist and right leaning, if you ask them ideological questions not party affiliated questions. Most believe in free markets. Most think a punitive tax system is unfair. Most eschew socialism and redistribution of wealth.
But, also remember that most Americans aren’t as tuned into the world of Washington as the average Freeper/DUmmie. They won’t get upset until it’s too late and their freedoms are gone. That is why now it’s very important that we try to win the battle of ideas, by not ostracizing those who sit on the proverbial fence, leaning this way and that depending on what political party is in power.
I believe there is a place for both discussion and action, and I believe they are not mutually exclusive. I do however, believe that there is a time to stop talking and start walking. When that time comes, we need to shut up and take action, within the law. I think there are clear distinctions in what is happening today and what was happening during the American Revolution that make us bound to follow a slightly different path than that of our founders. But, you make a solid point about being willing to fight to protect our freedoms, and we should do that with every breath we have.
