Report: Obama Offers to Scrap Missile Shield If Russia Cooperates on Iran

President Obama offered to consider scrapping plans for a missile defense shield in Europe if Russia helps rein in Iran's nuclear program, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported.

Obama inherited plans to build the system in Poland and the Czech Republic from the Bush administration, but the new administration has equivocated over the project. Though the plans were put in place to deter nations like Iran and North Korea from launching attacks and developing nuclear weapons, Russia has interpreted the planned installation as a threat.

If you draw a line on the globe from Iran to the east coast of the US it goes right over Poland. There are few places that would be better for a forward base than there. And now Obama is talking about backstabbing them and showing to the world that an alliance with us isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Tell me how Russian “cooperation” will stop the Iranian missiles? Talk about a disprportionate action. Obama just wants to destroy missile defense.

Actually, the ones that have put it on the line for us have been the British and the Canadians, as usual. I give Poland, the Czech Republic and other states thanks for their cooperation and sacrifices...but if Europe (collectively) doesn’t regard either Russia or rogue states like Iran as threats, then why should we insist on a U.S.-funded missle shield?

hmm, isn’t the mission in Afghanistan a...NATO mission? Is that Europe taking care of itself?

and who pushed for Poland et al to become part of NATO... wasn’t that largely....us?

and who, for commercial and national security reasons probably wanted to protect missile defense shield technology in a proprietary way...would that be...us?

and if europe’s security is breached and europe gets attacked, where does that leave...us? It’s “their” problem?

Bamsters reasoning is nutty. It presumes the missile threat to europe comes from Iran and the russians can and will curb that if we leave europes flank exposed to the russians. What sense does that make? How is this little deal in europe’s interest?

With us reneging on decades of assurances and planning ... who or what curbs the russian missile threat against europe? yes, Putin and his generals might actually pose one.

That is called absolute defeatism. Obama wants to scrap a magnificent missile shield system and begs Russia to help us deal with the Iranian terrorist regime.

Keep the missile shield and destroy the Iranian regime nuclear facilities. That is what a true leader does. But Obama is not a leader.

Obama will give the weapons tech to Russia in exchange for Russia not helping Iran anymore. However, Russia will still help Iran behind the scenes.
