Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele

Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele By: Jonathan Martin March 2, 2009 12:07 PM EST

On the same night he was offering the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, Rush Limbaugh drew criticism from an unlikely source: Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

In a little-noticed interview Saturday night, Steele dismissed Limbaugh as an “entertainer” whose show is “incendiary” and “ugly.”

Steele’s criticism makes him the highest-ranking Republican to pick a fight with the popular and polarizing conservative talk show host.

But the new RNC chairman’s extraordinary comments won’t sit well with the millions of conservative listeners Limbaugh draws each week, and Steele aides scrambled to limit the damage Monday morning by trying to change the subject.

“Rahm Emanuel and the Democrats know they lose an argument with the Republican Party on substance so they are building straw men to attack and distract,” said RNC spokesman Alex Conant.

“The feud between radio host Rush Limbaugh and Rahm Emanuel makes great political theater, but it is a sideshow to the important work going on in Washington. RNC Chairman Michael Steele and elected Republicans are focused on fighting for reform and winning elections. The Democrats’ problem is that the American people are growing skeptical of the massive government spending being pushed by Congressional leaders like Nancy Pelosi.”

Limbaugh, asked to respond, said he’d save his counter-attack for his listeners.

“I’ll handle it on the radio,” he wrote in an e-mail.

In an interview on CNN with D.L. Hughley, Steele assured that he, not Limbaugh, was in charge of the party before saying that he wanted to put the right-wing talker “into context.”

“Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer,” Steele said. “Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment. Yes it’s incendiary, yes it’s ugly.”

This is BS!

Watch the clip!

The first thing Steele does is stick it right back at ‘em (”How's that different than what was done to George Bush?”).

C’mon, can't you see what's goin’ on here?

This Alynski’s Ruler #12 and you're playing right into it!

Do you say that when you have problems in your marriage??

I hope not!

Every good work requires just that - WORK!

And the Republican Party went south because people who thought the same thing - “I QUIT!”

Don’t just give up!! Work harder to make it the kind of Party you want! I’ll bet you don’t even go to the convention after the primaries in order to get involved. And do you volunteer your home to host good candidates to get their start? That is about the mininmum you can do.

Just don’t complain if you won’t get involved - if not for your own sake - then for the sake of your children and grandchildren for Pete’s sake!

Didn’t Steal recently say something to the effect that the republican party should try to appeal to the hip hop crowd?

I was sorry to hear him say we needed to get into the inner cities and do some hip-hop stuff to lure young blacks and Latinos. Where is his head, anyway? Did he drink from the Koolaid? This is idiocy. The republican party usually has shown respect for the minorities, so instead of trying to break into their culture, we need to continue the fight to get them a better education so they can make decent choices, not be stuck in their hip-hop world and “stuck on stupid”. Their hip-hop world is killing them. We don’t need to promote it, but offer them something better.

I am truly disappointed in Steele. Can we trust any of them, or are they all on the take? Rush is just saying what the people can’t say.....they are getting pissed off and it’s going to break wide open one of these days.

The responses play right into the intent of Rahm E’s comments on Deface the Nation. All the of the liberal commentary has been Rush vs. Mitt, Rush vs. Newt, and now this. What they don’t report was actually what Rush said: It’s actually Rush vs. Brooks, Rush vs. Frum and Rush vs. to a less extent perhaps Noonan. But the liberal media doesn’t want to highlight that because they are the ‘Republican consultants’ along with David Rodham Gergen and Kevin Philips that have pushed the RINOs in our party on their programs. Steele isn’t a RINO.

The problem is that Steele and others aren’t as quick on their feet as Rush is. In the response to ‘isn’t Rush the ‘head of the Republican party’ he should have said, and he knows this, that Rush has never claimed to be, but he is a strong player in the conservative movement, etc. etc.

“RNC Chairman Michael Steele and elected Republicans are focused on fighting for reform and winning elections.” What reform is that, ...moderation? If so, Steele can forget about winning elections. Steele better get his ego under wraps.

‘yes it’s ugly’

The truth IS ugly.
The RNC had better wake up and realize that this is war.

I will not live on my knees!

Well, even before that 6:53 mark Steele agrees with his hosts that the Republican Party has been racist/hateful. That is so disappointing.
