Limbaugh Rallies Conservatives to Find 'Right Candidate' (Romney wins CPAC straw poll)
Fox News ^ | February 28, 2009

Rush Limbaugh was 15 minutes early to the stage, but no one was complaining Saturday evening in Washington, D.C., at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Quite the contrary. On the conference's third and final day, the conservative talk radio host was the headliner, and the crowd greeted him with an immense ovation.

"Ladies and gentleman, this is my first ever address to the nation," Limbaugh joked, noting that FOX News and C-SPAN were broadcasting the speech live.

Limbaugh then spent his first 15 minutes giving an impassioned summary of what it means to be a conservative before turning the focus to the movement's recent electoral record.

"We can take this country back. All we need is to nominate the right candidate," he said.

The speech was the culmination of an event that featured often fiery speeches by some of top names of the conservative movement and the Republican party, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and conservative commendator Ann Coulter.

Rush was at CPAC to speak, and the article also mentioned who won the straw poll (Mitt Romney) although they have little or nothing to do with each other. Sorry for any confusion.

How in the he!! did my girl Sarah get tied with Ron Paul for 3rd place...Ron Paul,of all people!!!! He’s nowhere CLOSE to being in her league. Ron Paul....ppppffffft!
As far as I am concerned, she made first place in MY straw poll....Then again,it was between her and Rush, and like it was noted earlier,he won’t run...that leaves Sarah.

I love the principles of Palin but we would have to remake the image that the MSM made of her, that takes time and by the time the election comes around the country is going to be in such a sorry state, Republican Conservatives are not going to be in mood for re-do’s.

“I honestly thought about sitting it out.”

Ditto. If it hadn’t been for Palin, I would have stayed home. Never missed an election in my life, overseas or in the states, but I just couldn’t get excited about McCain.

I think there are some good conservatives out there including Palin, Jindal, Sanford, and some others. But to be ready for 2012, these potential candidates need to start making national headlines soon.

I think the economy will be a huge issue in 2012 and our candidate has to have a solid, defensible plan to fix it.

I really like Tedisco and he could use all our support! I am really annoyed as you can tell at the talk of the Presidential race like 2010 doesn’t exist.

Right now things look good for Tedisco but we need to support him like we are behind and win this race big with an exclamation mark!

Straw polls are nothing. It all depends on the primaries and the way, you articulate your position. There will be no free ride. Bobby jindal would have understood that on tuesday. It applies for Sarah palin and all the other candidates

“If only he wasn’t a mormon...”

______________________________________

That sentiment is really why he did not get the nomination in 08. Many evangelicals, especially in the south, just found his Mormon faith too much of an obstacle. And Huckabee siphened off many of them.

We’ll see if things change by 2012 after four years of Obama. As an evangelical, I also wish he were not a Mormon, but in the end Jerry Falwell was right-on when he said the following during his last TV interview: “We’re electing a President, not a Sunday School teacher.”

The two are totally unrelated -

Rush gave a great speech on core conservative values, and also pointed out in blunt terms the socialist agenda of Obama

“...the crowd greeted him with an immense ovation. “

Why?

What has happened to the GOP since Rush started being a political commentator?

One does not preclude the other. While we need to take back seats (a lot of seats) in 2010, we still need to be discussing our strategey for 2012. Our likely candidates need to be out there on the natioanl scene, explaining why the democrap plan is wrong, and explaining how conservatives can fix it for real.

And these blossoming leaders need to reinforce that this is not going to be the Republican Party that spent like socialists and opposed enforcement of our national borders.

Well, write to sarah palin to campaign for Tedisco and make her work for Virginia governor election in november 09 and work on the congressional election for 2010. If does it, people will automatically line behind her. Everyone needs to earn it

[Why not work for 2010]

Exactly...it’s the reason Zero is rushing forward to install as many socialist programs as he can before ‘10.

“Romney because we are going to need one heck of an economist to pull our country out of the mess that the dems are making.”
I'm not knocking Romney or supporting him either way, just pointing out that a great President doesn't even have to understand economics to do a great job, he / she has to listen to the right experts and then their job is to motivate the country to listen and respond. That includes Congress, which is really were spending and appropriations originate with. A President doesn't have the authority to spend anything not appropriated by Congress. All of the talk of Obama’s Stimulus and Obamas Budget would just be hot air if Congress was still in control of the adults. Bush's biggest fault is his failure to use the bully pulpit to beat up America's enemies and educate the American people. To be fair, he faced a hostile media from day one. They wouldn't even give him air time to address the nation on many occasions, yet they break into everything to carry any snippet coming out of Obama’s mouth. The media and the DemonRATs are responsible for creating the situation we are in, and it's not a pretty one. They deserve to be run out of the country after being tarred and feathered, starting with George Soros. I think Iran would be an appropriate place for exile.

Rush has certainly changed his appearance since he came on the national scene. In the early days, he never allowed himself to be photographed without wearing a tie. I’m the proud owner of one of the flamboyant Rush Limbaugh ties that he promoted in the early 1990’s, and I like to wear it around liberals when I’m not wearing my elephant tie.

Does that stand for "you are wet napkin" on a thread that people actually care about?
