Excellent 2 1/2 minute video of Milton Friedman on the Phil Donahue show, ca 1970s.
Video at the link.
TOPICS: Business/Economy; Government; News/Current Events; Philosophy
KEYWORDS: capitalism; donahue; friedman; liberty
Those of us who remember the 1970s remember a smug, condescending liberal know-it-all named Phil Donahue who ran an afternoon talk show back when that was not as common. What was common then, as now, is the far left leanings of the news and entertainment media. In this clip, Nobel prize winner Milton Friedman delivers a "Joe the Plumber" style smackdown to a bewildered-looking Blago-haired Donahue.
If you need a pick-me-up, this is for you. I don't find where this has been posted since 2007, and while we lost this brillant man in 2006, we need to hear Dr. Friedman's uplifting message today more than ever.

We need another Milton Friedman. That’s why we are in this financial mess now, because there’s too much regulation. I say remove all regulatory agencies - federal, state and local - like the FDA, EPA, OSHA, FAA, zoning boards, all federal, state and local licensing agencies (why does a barber need a license?), anything and everything, plus make all unions illegal, and America will rise again.

His one main mistake was taking us off the gold standard in 1971 which is responsible for most of the ills taking place now.

I’ll give Donahue this much — he lets Friedman state his case respectfully and without interruption.
It actually looks like real dialogue!
