When Obama Speaks, the Market Tanks

Wall Street investors send White House a message

The best thing President Barack Obama can do for the economy is keep quiet. A day after delivering an address that won widespread praise from the chattering class, Obama’s big-government policies were rejected by traders on Wall Street.

Wall Street’s negative reaction to Obama is nothing new. Ever since Election Day, Obama’s words have failed to inspire investors. “When the President speaks, the market listens … and crumbles,” said Family Research Council chief Tony Perkins, who outlined the following pattern of the Dow’s drop after notable Obama addresses:

Okay, but why interview a guy from the FRC? Why not an economist?

The fact is Obama is simply not an adherent of free-market economics something he demonstrates on a daily basis whenever he opens his pie-hole. If that doens’t scare investors, it should. Just about everyone on this forum (there must be a few commies here) knows that cutting spending and personal and corporate taxes is the first step to rejuvenating the economy. But we know The Great Spreader would be crucified by his own disciples if he tried to implement that plan. So we must oppose Obama for the next four years and throw him out in 2012. Those are the only things that will save the economy from collapsing.

Carpentonto, IMHO makes a valid point, this debt-based economy has been tottering for some time. The Frontline piece is interesting, it appears to be very biased but the FL comments are not...take a look. The NooBee reaction is pretty normal....especially due to the frustration a lot of FReepers and others are that we can see that the root cause is not lack of regulations, not the Free Market but something that we have watched for most of the last 100 years, an ever growing, overbearing & corrupt Government and the solution is not more of the same. This is where the investigations should began but like that Frontline piece, our crony, amoral Government gets a free pass.....the anger is rising and confidence is falling for one PRIMARY REASON, we do not TRUST our GOVERNMENT! It’s time to Molon Labe!

He is the kiss of death to the economy.

He's what is known as a psychic vampire, literally draining people's energy through long-winded, self-righteous, depressing, "bummer" harangues like Jimmy Carter's infamous "malaise speech."

Malaise: The Ominous Carter Parallels

Like Carter, Obama views the presidency primarily as a drama of self-discovery, a private learning experience and vision quest (to God only knows where). He probably doesn't even know. He's making it up as he goes along. You have a very confused, mixed up, crazy liberal guy working out his childhood and adolescent psychological conflicts from the Oval Office. With arrogance, condescension, and self-righteousness he lectures to us that we must play along as he searches, learns, and...explores.

Someone might approach him and tell him he has to stop this gloom&doom "bummer" schtick because every time he opens his mouth the market tanks. But the depressing gloom&doom and self-righteous lectures and sermonizing are part of his "inner" drama. He has a neurotic need to keep lecturing and talking down to white Americans, accusing them of the failures of American society. He is oblivious to the damage this is doing to the economic mood and the country. It's no way to lead the United States of America.

Also like Carter, there is no need for us to join him in this depressing voyage of self-discovery and private learning experiments.

Why put a street thug rabble rouser as head of the free world?

Can know one do research and figure things out for themselves anymore? Have ALL the economists been right? How many have been bought and paid for? Who do you trust these days?

I trade futures. I and every other trader I know get short when O is gonna speak. The longer he speaks the lower it goes. Part of the problem is his rhetoric says nothing specific.
Market did the same when Bush was in his second term.

Carpentonto, IMHO makes a valid point..

It seems to me his main point is to have us lay off Obama. I reject that.

If you choose to be Carpentonto's acolyte, that's your choice, of course.

Or to put it another way...

Then Senator Obama asked during his campaign “are you in better shape now then you were eight years ago?”

Why shouldn't we ask "are you better off now then you were 35 days ago?"

You know me, I'm basically a happy, optimistic guy.

I'll let the Anointed One (PBUH) (PooBeUponHim) do all the gloomydoomy. ;-)

I doubt he’s the newbie he’d like everyone to think he is. People that use the word “loosing” as he did in a previous post are quite familiar with Free Republic, retread comes to mind.
