What Sarah should do
2/25/2009 | ventana

Posted on 02/25/2009 5:20:09 AM PST by ventana

Like kick the can, the media will play its usual noisy game today.

Obama scored, Obama won, poll numbers rising. The clatter will be deafening. But as the din subsides over the next few days, a sinking feeling in the pits of the stomaches of ordinary Americans will mirror the sentiment on Wall Street.

This is a carpe diem moment. This should be the moment Sarah Palin makes a self-directed foray into a forum of her own choosing.

She should boldly grab the spotlight, and, by using YouTube, address the American people. She can create her own bully pulpit.

Handlers may tell her to wait, but that would be a misstep. This is a watershed moment, and the American people want to hear from a leader who is commonsensical, who is no-nonsense. We want to hear from someone who has a vision for this country that is optimistic and unselfconsciously informed by a spirituality which is palpable.

Sarah has this in spades.

She should refuse to engage the media like she would Ebola.

But she should look us square in the eye and talk to us. A townhall forum would be ideal. Questions from the audience would create the sense that small town America is a partner with her in this conversation.

We realize she's not Condi Rice, or Henry Kissinger, or Hillary Clinton, or even Barak Obama.

That's not what we are looking for. It is exactly that polished and slick political type who will not resonate with responsible Americans right now. Responsible Americans, those who have to foot the bill, would like to hear from somebody a lot like them. An individual who shares their concerns and is able to express their concerns, an individual with a vision that seems a lot more patriotic and consistent with the Constitution for which many brave forefathers fought and died for, that is who American looks for now.

In fact it is Sarah, plain spoken and honest who should grab attention with a conversation absolutely free from the hyperbole of over promise and under deliver that so disgusts us.

Bobby Jindahl gave a pleasant speech last night; but it was not compelling. America needs and waits for a genuine conversation. So Sarah, step in to the spotlight.

We'd like to talk with you.

“This is an endless game unless we stand up and fight for true conservatives.”

Do as you wish. But we got our butts handed to us in the last election. Talk to the average voter, and their view of Palin isn’t positive. The MSM is powerful, like it or not. We need a candidate who can survive the MSM and reach those in the middle, not just conservatives.

Get someone who appeals to just conservatives, (Palin), and you’ll get to watch another Democrat victory.

That “damaged goods” snarky line is getting so tiring.

If you have a better candidate in mind (presuming you do, and that is your motivation) then suggest them.

Stop the whining about Sarah though.

Be up front and support someone. Or get out of the way.

I agree. However, mathinks in this kind of Sarah-bashing, I smell the stench of Romney the White.

Yeesh.

Best,

Chris

Put up or shut up.

Who would you suggest?

Let me guess: Mitt.

“But being the Whack-A-Mole Governor now would be irritating to the voters. If she popped up and yakkity-yak-yakked whenever Obama said something, that would leave him with the strategic initiative and her marginalized.”

You get it.
I still have doubts as to whether Palin can be “resurrected” in the minds of the middle, (uninformed voters). But, your plan is probably her best chance.

It would have been a slamdunk if Palin had given the response to Zero.

If Palin had given the same speech Jindal gave then she would have bombed just as badly. People are looking for solutions and Obama talks about giving them. Oh sure, it may wind up being more smoke and mirrors than anything else, but when people are worried about the markets tanking and their 401ks dropping, when the news talks about major banks failing, and when dropping home prices and defaulting mortgates are on all the front pages they want to hear someone at least talking about dealing with them. Jindal touched on none of them in his speech. If you're going to get into a battle of ideas then let's be more specific on ours.

To paraphrase an earlier commentator, if Obama had set fire to the House chambers last night then the majority people would have said, "Hey, at least he got a fire started. Way to go!" In their response the GOP talked about how they don't play with matches.

Good strategy. When zer0 had his big “Greek Temple” speech, the afterglow was very short-lived, because the next day Sarah was selected as the GOP VP candidate and THAT was the lead story.

If she wants a successful future in national politics she needs to reinvent her public persona despite the media.

Bingo. Perhaps we should be looking to the Nixon campaigns, rather than Reagan. Didn't he fail miserably in his first national campaign, learn lessons from it, and campaign successfully? (Of course, I'm NOT advocating another Watergate-type break-in.)

It is long past the time that the sensible people of the United States admit that the Main Stream Media is the latest incarnation of the Joseph Goebbels School of Journalism and to treat it as such.
The MSM will twist, cheat, lie, and otherwise defame Each and Every conservative individual who steps forward. Sarah Palin is merely today’s victim. Any utterance will be twisted. Any sideways glance will be jumped on as indicative of a shifty persona. If an up and coming conservative is seen to COUGH in public, CNN and the usual suspects will bring fourth a panel of doctors to proclaim the pending demise of that person.
The MSM is to be ignored. No answer. No debate. NO argument. No support. Nothing whatever. Personally, I am proud to boast that of ALL the wasted effort of the, for example TV industry, I can name ONLY one program and its time. How much is spent on commercials, I cannot imagine, but none gets to me. I’ve had it with them, and so happy to say, I DON’T NEED THEM! Neither do you.

Remember, they voted him in by a reasonably healthy margin.

Against a who? McCain was washed up before he started. The only thing that kept zerO from taking all 50 states was Sarah, and many conservatives would not vote for mcCain if their lives depended on it.

“O” has failed in the first month of his presidency. That’s never happened before in the history if America.

“Otherwise, get out of the way.”

You really are clueless aren’t you?
First of all, this is not your forum. I will most certainly do as I please. As for you, there’s a saying about sand, and pounding that applies.
Second, if Palin is your candidate, this is no way to help her win. Or did I miss “alternate grass roots 101”? You know, that class where they taught you to be abrasive, and to alienate her most likely supporters. That’s going to play real well with common, uninformed voters.
But, you’ll be able to have your love fest for Palin, and you can whine about how the rest of the world just doesn’t understand.

I wonder how much Romney pays these Astroturfers to come in here and post this "more in sorrow than in anger" stuff about Sarah.

Romney's dad had the same problem with Ronald Reagan. Same result, too.

Note to the Astroturfers pushing Mr. Brylcream: Saruman gets scourged at the end of Lord of the Rings

Best,

Chris

If she popped up and yakkity-yak-yakked whenever Obama said something

She shouldn't just "respond whenever Obama says something", but communicate her ideas and statements from time to time on her own. On the offensive, nut just as a reaction. It's not about Obama, there are countless other issues. She cannot depend on the MSM other than one or two guys on FOX. Talk radio, the internet and townhall meetings need to be her venues.

“I think the MSM effectively ruined her image with the casual voter, (the stupid masses).”

True, but like an 0bama promise, the voters’ attention span has an early expiration date. If Sarah plays it right, i.e., speak at conservative gatherings, build her PAC, etc., she’ll be fine. When gasoline returns to the $4 range — and it will — her message of a large buildup of a viable energy infrastructure will resonate. Few leaders can talk as clearly about energy as she can. If she drives a strong message linking energy development (oil, gas, coal) with job creation and independence from foreign sources, she’ll roar back stronger than ever.

“She needs to pick one issue that will stay national, like energy, formulate a policy and get out in front on it. “

Excellent point. If Palin were to be on an issue, and elevate herself to hyper competence, she’d do much to improve her image. The key is to ride an issue, not simply be an opposition. Someone who constantly supplies a counterpoint to a popular president can become annoying fast.

‘.. we need someone that can withstand the shots, from a media standpoint, and still remain standing..the question is, who will that person be..’

We need some one to tell the MSM and the federal government PUBLICLY to go pi$$ up a rope...

Americans love rebels...

If Palin had given the same speech Jindal gave then she would have bombed just as badly.

Of course. It would have been a bit odd for Palin talking about her parents coming here from India and living in Louisiana. Sheesh. Ya don't think she would have made her own speech, with different emphasis and content? Take a clue from her RNC speech. She was maginificant.

Don't make the mistake of underestimating Obama's support right now.

He won an election outright. Yeah, he beat McCain. Okay, I get that. But he won. Elections matter. And voters support him right now and want him to succeed. Smart politicians like Palin get that; that's why you don't see her out there right now; she's trying to be supportive because that's the smart play.

Best,

Chris

You are clearly avoiding identifying where your loyalties lie. (using the term loyal advisedly, since you seem to be driven by an agenda of destroying the best Republican candidate since President Reagan)

It seems clear you are a Romney flunkie.

You are making Romney look petty and self absorbed, and Palin look good.

Your “candidate” Romney did this in the general election, and may have cost Republicans the presidency.

Now get out of the way.
