Saving America: Time to hit the streets?
Augusta Chronicle Editorial Staff
Sunday, February 22, 2009
Jim DeMint's gentlemanly air and refined tone belie a power and an urgency in his words.
The stately senator from South Carolina sees America's unique centuries-old system of freedom dying out.
And he thinks we may have to take to the streets to save it.
"I would think it's time to start thinking about peaceful demonstrations," he told us last week.
Seriously?
"Seriously.
"The power of the people is there. Freedom is in the people's hands right now, and it's about to slip through."
Of course, the recent "stimulus" debate is what's fresh on DeMint's mind. Despite DeMint's putting 15 aides on it overnight, no one in Washington was able to read the bill, which was the most expensive in American history -- as well as being perhaps the most irresponsible.
The worst since the adoption of the income tax, DeMint figures.
It's not just the amount of money involved, some $780 billion -- although that, alone, is corrosive enough to American freedom. "I've seen it happen inside government agencies: 'What can we do to get it spent?' It's the only way (the agencies can get money)," DeMint says. "I see that happen in Afghanistan and Iraq, where our aid programs are basically based on people being able to spend the money within a certain period of time so we can say we did something. And it just leads to a bunch of waste."

As was said above, the national media won't care about this and won't cover a demonstration, even if you had a million people in DC carrying torches.
However, local newspapers WILL carry demonstrations, which is why the local demonstrations being advertised are important. In addition, state legislatures and state party officials are more easily accessed and made nervous by stuff like this.
We need to bypass the national media and get coverage in the local TV and press. Local talk radio is also a good venue. The message has to get out. Many people don't know about all of the provisions in the stimulus bill; I can't imagine seniors would like the "cost-efficiency of treatments" they discussed in the health care portion, and I can't imagine many people will like the funding for ACORN. Lots of people are upset about the census.
It's important to speak up as often and as forcefully as we can. Stoke that righteous anger in other people. Keep them constantly talking about the mess we find ourselves in. DOn't let them get away with saying, "At least they are doing something" or "Bush got us into this mess." Have your facts and figures memorized and answer them back! Give them web sites to go to, articles to read.
It's going to take about 6 months to get his approval numbers down, and we can make this happen. Once his approval numbers are down, the White House press will be a little (not a lot, but a little) more willing to question his actions.
If we really wanted to get Machivellian, we could convince the Puma people to help us remove Obama, Biden, and Pelosi, making Hilary President. Quite frankly, I would rather see her in charge than this incompetent Marxist who is a stranger in his own country.
Not for us. It will be for the poor Troop that had to kill 50 of his countrymen. And then can’t sleep at night!
The Democrats are making a very big mistake - because once people have nothing left to lose, they will indeed "take to the streets."
It shouldn't have to be this way. There was a time when men had their priorities straight. God first. Honor was more important than anything earthly. And they held personal liberty more important than mortal life or fortune. Such was the case in the American Revolution.
But if Democrats keep taking what is not theirs to take, even these will be forced to the streets having perceived they have nothing left to lose.

I agree that Conservatives must take over the Rep party if we want to win elections, however, I am against trying to play identity politics with the Dems. We always lose when that happens.
Re social issues: First, the question is how much do the social issues determine how Hispanics, Chinese, etc. vote as compared to ecnomic issues. And I suggest you read Heather MacDonald's Hispanic Family Values? Runaway illegitimacy is creating a new U.S. underclass and The Republicans Hispanic Delusion
They are already conservative on these issues but have been brainwashed that republicans are evil etc.. We need to take back the cities, turn renters into owners. People who have no stake in the system, will not defend it. We must spread the entrepreneurial philosophy to the ghettos and change their mindset.
The way you get people to vote for you is to make it in their interest to do so. The Dems have hijacked the immigration issue painting the Reps as bigots, racists, and xenophobes. Immigration can be a winning issue for Reps if they use it the right way and we can do it without compromising our principles on such things as amnesty. In point of fact, the people hurt the worst by immigration, legal and illegal, are minorities and immigrants.
Immigration, legal and illegal, has had and will continue to have a major and far-reaching impact across a broad spectrum of challenges that confront this nation, e.g., national security, the economy/global competitiveness, health care, taxes, energy independence, education, entitlement reform, law enforcement, social welfare programs, physical infrastructure, the environment, civil liberties, and a continued sense of national identity/shared sense of endeavor. In many ways immigration policy is the defining issue of our times with enormous implications for this nation and the world. Yet, rarely will you hear immigration mentioned by our political and intellectual elites in connection with these challenges. Why?
Immigrants account for one in eight U.S. residents, the highest level in 80 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13. In a decade it will be one in 7 and by 2050 it will be one in 5. This does not assume an amnesty, which would hasten the process.
During the period 2000-6, 10.3 million immigrants arrived the highest seven-year period of immigration in U.S. history. More than half of post-2000 arrivals (5.6 million) are estimated to be illegal aliens.
The largest increases in immigrants were in California, Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, Arizona, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Of adult immigrants, 31 percent have not completed high school, compared to 8 percent of natives. Since 2000, immigration increased the number of workers without a high school diploma by 14 percent, and all other workers by 3 percent.
Mitt Romney has been successful in anything he has ever tried. He had the intellect, executive experience [public and private] and energy to be a great President and certainly was far superior to McCain or Obama. I would take him in a heart beat over those two turkeys.
very INTERESTiNG Ernest!!
Hmmmmmmm...

Or if enough Americans claim as many exemptions as possible on their W-4's, and then simply refuse to file their tax returns. I would think that would start to slow the insatiable government money machine down somewhat.
Maybe ‘community organizing’ would be the better tack.
People will stand up for freedom, if you can get them away from the propaganda and talk to them about the danger of the situation.
bttt
Yes, he's a very capable socialist. Who else in government has managed to institute gay marriage, push through socialized medicine complete with $50 taxpayer-funded abortions, the complete homosexualization of state government and the public schools, AND a permanent "assault" weapons ban, all in ONE TERM, even?
Yep. He's good all right!

....and the 18% interest rates as well! Carter was 'protected' by the fact that in the early 70's there was neither an 'internet' nor intelligent Talk Radio! This time perhaps we won't have to watch an arrogant incompetent Dem Whitehouse/Congress make all those mistakes all over again! Obama was (theoretically) elected as a populist. All of the sudden he's a deaf mute elitist. Someone in the Dem euphoria crowd is bound to notice.
Protests that are reported by MSM can give encouragement and strength to many Americans.
He did it. His executive oath of office precluded him from instituting gay marriage, but he did it, fulfilling his promises made to gain the support of the “Log Cabin Republicans.” He pushed socialized medicine through. That’s why it has his name on it: Romney Care. He implemented the most vile parts of the gay agenda in state government and the schools, completely on his own dime. He gleefully passed the “assault” weapons ban.
You are part of the group that hates Mormons. You are full of misinformation and innuendo. You are clueless.
You're a liar.
Produce one word I've said that proves it, or apologize.
To p!ss off people like you, the eternally p!ssed off elements of the GOP.
