Saving America: Time to hit the streets?
Augusta Chronicle Editorial Staff
Sunday, February 22, 2009

Jim DeMint's gentlemanly air and refined tone belie a power and an urgency in his words.

The stately senator from South Carolina sees America's unique centuries-old system of freedom dying out.

And he thinks we may have to take to the streets to save it.

"I would think it's time to start thinking about peaceful demonstrations," he told us last week.

Seriously?

"Seriously.

"The power of the people is there. Freedom is in the people's hands right now, and it's about to slip through."

Of course, the recent "stimulus" debate is what's fresh on DeMint's mind. Despite DeMint's putting 15 aides on it overnight, no one in Washington was able to read the bill, which was the most expensive in American history -- as well as being perhaps the most irresponsible.

The worst since the adoption of the income tax, DeMint figures.

It's not just the amount of money involved, some $780 billion -- although that, alone, is corrosive enough to American freedom. "I've seen it happen inside government agencies: 'What can we do to get it spent?' It's the only way (the agencies can get money)," DeMint says. "I see that happen in Afghanistan and Iraq, where our aid programs are basically based on people being able to spend the money within a certain period of time so we can say we did something. And it just leads to a bunch of waste."

That is how it starts. Then when Oslama orders in the troops to curtail the subversives, an armed resistance begins.

My question is will that pathetic loser Neil Young pen any songs about patriots being gunned down?

I see a growing discontent with Congress and Obama due to this stimulus bill. When the details are finally known there will be a lot of more moderate Democratic members of Congress who will find they have been hoodwinked by Pelosi and Reid and were fools to vote for this thing sight unseen. We need to hammer all of our members of Congress especially those who voted for it about the odious provisions of this bill and how they will have bad effects in their districts. Members of Congress who supported this thing should made to feel be scared to death of the wrath of the voters back home.

This is absolutely the case in the federal government where spending money is usually equated with progress.

I don't know about Neil Young, but it looks like Arlo Guthrie might be on it.

He’s only suggesting peaceful demonstrations. They have been going on for a long time...remember the 60’s? However, those were NOT peaceful!!! So, peaceful would be good and it is the right of the people to have their voices heard.

Posted by me on another thread;

Hope they are courageous enough to make sacrifices and shame the current bastards in office. Remember, their actions also play here in the states, it's not just their governments that they petition but world public opinion. Soon we will be joining their ranks as well. Remember tank man, we will have to join him. One man makes a difference, hundreds a demonstration, thousands a revolution.

DeMint is amazing. Sad to hear him say that those of us who believe as he does are a “remnant”, but he is right.

This morning I came across someone commenting on BO's "stimulus" package and the collapsing economy. This guy was pretty leftist and a BO supporter, but even he sounded concerned about the way things were heading.

He quoted material from Crane Brinton's "Anatomy of a Revolution" on the stages of revolution.

Here's some material from another Web page (student assignment on how to have your own revolution and rate its success, refer to the Crane Brinton model):

A. Old Regime (Right)
i. Economically weak -- The government has deficits and must tax.
ii. Politically weak -- The government is ineffective and cannot enforce policy.
iii. Intellectuals desert -- Reformers speak out against the government.
iv. Class antagonism -- There is a conflict between the old regime and new forces.

B. First stages of Revolution
i. Symbolic actions -- There is a rallying point against the old regime.
ii. Planning -- The new forces plan "spontaneous" revolt.
iii. Role of force -- The government cannot repress the rebellion.

C. Rule of Moderates
i. Dual sovereignty -- There is a much better organized and obeyed government.
ii. Moderates take over mechanism of government -- make a new constitution; fight a war

D. Accession of Extremists
i. Coup d’état -- The illegal government seizes power.
ii. Organization -- A small number of devoted, disciplined radicals govern.

E. Reigns of Terror and Virtue
i. Forced conformity or punishment.
ii. Spread the gospel of revolution
iii. Causes of terror: habitual violence, pressure of war, economic crisis, class or ideological struggle

F. Thermidore (Center)
i. First convalescence from fever of revolution
ii. Amnesty or repression
iii. Return of pleasure, religion, status quo, etc.

I also posted the following regarding mere protests;

I hate to break it to these folks but protests are not going to achieve anything. The left has learned an important lesson, protests did not end the Vietnam war, they did not end poverty or any war for that matter. They make for good shots on TV but little else, government has the power to ignore them. Obama and his minions will do just that. Action on the other hand is another matter. we need to figure out how to sabotage the revenue collecting capacity of government. Revenue money is it’s oxygen, without it it shrivels.

I wish I could see a way of this resolving peacefully. We have so few men of character, faith, reason and enlightenment - although it seems DeMint is one of those few and I appreciate it - that we will not have the sort of revolution that the Founders did. Today, we have “democracy of the mobs” and anything done to even stem the tide will bring violence from that bunch. It’s right to go forth seeking peaceful change, but would be unwise not to be prepared for a violent reaction.

I see a growing discontent with Congress and Obama due to this stimulus bill.

I saw a poll yesterday that claims a 90% approval for Obama among DEMS.

Until this number comes down, the rest of us stand to look like "SORE LOOSERS".

Keep yer powder dry, this is just the beginning.

Take it from someone who has seen revolutions, coup d’e etats and everything in between, we’re not there yet. Revolutions are serious things, people don’t just get hurt in them, they get killed and you can’t control the numbers. Once you roll the dice there is no telling if they come up craps. But sometimes there is no choice. My las memories of the land of my birth were tanks in front of the house, my mother and I under house arrest and the goons trying to get at my father. Well, they didn’t get him, he had the last laugh and we left for America. It doesn’t always turn out that way.
