In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1).
The question of the age of the earth has produced heated discussions on debate boards, classrooms, TV, radio, and in many churches, Christian colleges, and seminaries. The primary sides are:
*Young earth proponents (biblical age of the earth and universe of about 6,000 years)1
*Old earth proponents (secular age of the earth of about 4.5 billion years and a universe about 14 billion years old)2
The difference is immense! Lets give a little history of where these two basic calculations came from and which worldview is more reasonable...

True enough. But God is using our frame of reference in Genesis by defining each day as having an evening and a morning.
I agree; that’s the point indeed. Genesis is congruent w/ modern science.
==It is sad when one’s learning stops at the age of seven.
Then maybe you should stard reading books again.
It was explained to me on this thread that God writes in words that have meaning to us. That is, when He says "Day" he is referring to our 24 hour day. Thus when he says "rest" he means that he has to take a break because He is tired. Why would God be tired?
Prove it?
The notion is ludicrous. The Bible text certainly does not support such foolishness.
Are you talking to me?
If you want to dispute the generations of man and the 6000 year premise, you might intrigue me enough for an argument.
If you want to challenge me with the Universe is barely 6000 years old....well then I would suggest that you read the Bible text a few hundred times more until you actually "get it" before you poke at me.
Oooh, good one! We are supposed to discount the words of Christ but on the other hand, speculation about God's timeline - past and future - becomes the heart of Christianity. Sadly, many people never go to church because they heve heard that the core of Christianity is that the earth is x thousands of years old, the speed of light is an elaborate hoax and Moses walked with the dinosaurs. They may not hear Christ's words proclaimed but they do hear a lot about timelines, numerology and pseudo science.
But not long-ages with respect to Earth. Like I said, it is possible for Earth to be thousands of years old, and distant galaxies to be billions of years old (in terms of elapsed physical processes), and yet owe their existence to the same YOUNG creation event. Long-age uniformitarians most certainly do not agree (nor will they even entertain) this possibility.
Huh? You mean you do not choose the <10,000 yo belief because of your faith?
This link validates my point, and that is scientific research is “relative” to what has happened at the site the sample is taken and when:
What it validates is that if you sample a 3 million year old rock, radiometric dating will give you about 3 million years as the age.
Please. When referring to the Bible, do not distort the words.

I thought he rode the dinosaurs?
==Does Genesis say that that 7th. day had an evening and morning like the other 6 days that had ended?
No, it simply says on the seventh day God rested. How do you interpret God’s day of rest?
Yes, it does work. That is why the creationists are winning the origins debate (and this despite the unconstitutional establishment of the Temple of Darwinisistic Materialism as America’s official religion).
Reasoning from the perspective of one who says the days are 24 hrs. would not that 7th day have ended already?
And yes, I am assuming (but not unreasonably so) that each day is of the same length. So that I am not attributing a position to you you do not hold.
... and it doesn't matter. As a Christian it is interesting to me how wrapped around the axle some get over this. God did not spend much time on the subject in the Bible which says a lot.
I wish I had the book that described the Yale Study and all the elements that brought them to “the less than 10,000 yr old Earth” conclusion. The creationist who was promoting that point in link I gave was not part of the study at Yale, that I know of. I can’t find that study now, and Yale has a new geology department and they have a different mindset...
My college classes were a long time ago, so I had the original stuff taught to me, plus I took an oceanography course, as an elective, which covers a lot of it again in teaching the tectonic plates, etc. MY major was CJ, and I am not a scientific type but operate on common sense and rational thinking.
Does my faith enter in to it, and I guess it does due to my constant reading of scripture. I relate the “big bang theory” to God’s “speaking” the world into existance. I don’t put God in a box, and know that scripture is sometimes misunderstood.
I don’t use a KJV, because the NIV is closest to the original greek and hebrew giving a clearer understanding. We cannot understand scripture according to our culture and time, but must understand those who lived and wrote it according to the timeline and laws under which they lived. That doesn’t mean it isn’t relevant to today. I hope that answers your question?
If that's true, then your salvation is probably false! - The purpose of the geneolgies is to show that there is a direct line from Adam to Christ, thus he is qualified to be our "kinsman redeemer." Do you understand that?
