WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will allow tax breaks given to wealthier Americans under his predecessor, George W. Bush, to expire as scheduled rather than eliminate them sooner, an administration official said on Saturday.
Obama, who promised during his White House campaign to roll back tax cuts on people earning more than $250,000, also plans to boost tax collections from about 16 percent of the economy this year to 19 percent in 2013, the official said, confirming a Washington Post report on Obama's budget proposals for the 2010 fiscal year.

what about winning all of those conservatives who didn’t vote for McCain because he wasn’t ‘pure’ enough for them?
Should we have a “drop” pool on how far will the market go down, down, down on Monday? Might as well have some fun. : (
I’m assuming this also includes the capital gains tax correct (which will have direct impact on the Market)?
“Wealthier” would include any family that makes above the median.
Complete horse-hockey.
When there's more money in the bank for producers the WHOLE country is affected positively because business overall ( which means everyone in the country) is directly affected.
You don't have a healthy understanding of how economics work. Your view is quite distorted.
He knows exactly what he is doing. He is cutting the United States down to size.
Well, we are all entitled to protest. That is something that this country has as a fundamental principle.
And mind you, I’m not talking about uniting amongst ourselves, because I think that can be pretty easily done. But, the problem is (apparently) that there is not “enough of us” — so that means you’ve got to persuade others who are not now on our side — to come over (in terms of where it counts — at election time).
And it’s from *that perspective* that I speak. So, protesting may get everyone organized that is already on our side — but it doesn’t help too much from the standpoint of switching those others (who are not on our side) to come over here during those critical elections.
I hope you see what I mean here... it’s a very real concern and it takes more than uniting amongst ourselves...
You said — “what about winning all of those conservatives who didnt vote for McCain because he wasnt pure enough for them?”
That’s where some real good and solid election analysis will come into play. I don’t know if that’s already been done yet and if someone has compiled all that relevant information or not. I think we need to see it and understand *exactly* what happened.
And by understanding what happened, I don’t mean saying “the stupid people voted for the stupid candidate...”... LOL... That sort of thing is not going to help someone win another election... :-)
I would really like to see a breakdown into what groups went over, who didn’t vote, who shifted and so on and so forth. It’s from this sort of thing that one can figure out who to target to try and get them to *shift their vote* for the next important Presidential election in 2012....
No doubt. The capital gain tax will go back to 30% as it is now 15%. I believe that he will push it to 40% if not more.
Liberals tax people and spend their money, that is their only economic principle "Tax and Spend". Tax the producers and waste the money on the non producers and the parasites.
Obama is following Hoover’s lead in every way except expenditures. Hoover raised taxes and sought to balance the budget. he arm-wrestled industrailists to keep them from laying off workers, even though auto sales came down 90%. In other words, Hoover tried to engeineer his way out of the Depression, but only made things worse. If Obama is not careful, he will have a march on Washington in a couple of Years, just as Hoover did.
Everyone QUIT work.
I like the new one that explains exactly what Obama means.

When you’ve got deflation on the roll like it is, and wealth destruction happening all through our economy and some analysts saying a Dow at 4000 and that this will all have to “work out” first before it gets better — I think it’s a matter of perspective as to what is going to make any difference at all and what is not...
The push is *down down and down* and until the bottom is arrived at, it’s not going to turn around no matter what kind of money or tax breaks you throw at it one way or another. You may give some “relief” in the meantime, through these things, but it’s not going to change the direction of this Great Depression until it works all the way through the system.
Nothing is going to change until the bottom is reached..., no matter what you do. You’ll just give relief to certain people or certain groups in the meantime.
That's obvious.
And your perspective is really quite "out there" Star Traveller.

Good Conservatives are always welcome down here in Texas. And Houston is not sinking as fast as the rest of the US. But, Leave it to Washington to try to sink us.
