If Democratic leaders plan to schedule a vote on the half-trillion dollar omnibus spending bill next week, they should post the legislation online immediately so the American people have adequate time to read the measure and understand what is in it. My colleagues in the Republican leadership and I made this request two weeks ago, and to date, our request has gone unanswered. Time is running short, and American taxpayers deserve to know how their hard-earned tax dollars will be used under this legislation.
The fact that the Democratic Majority is planning to bring this massive spending bill to the House floor just days after Congress approved the trillion-dollar stimulus spending plan is added proof that borrow and spend has become Washingtons go-to strategy for funding more programs and projects that taxpayers do not need and cannot afford.
Will the omnibus spending bill be loaded with pork-barrel earmarks? Will it contain harmful language aimed at stopping environmentally-safe energy exploration far off our shores? Will it include other controversial policy changes akin to the stimulus bills provisions to undermine welfare reform and allow government bureaucrats to ration out health care for families and seniors? These are important questions that must be answered and will be answered, if Democratic leaders give the American people ample time to review the legislation by placing it online immediately.
NOTE: Boehner and other Members of the House GOP leadership sent a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) on February 5 asking that the massive FY 2009 omnibus spending bill be posted online immediately. To date, that letter has gone unanswered.

Obama's team may not be so lucky. It got off to a bad start by breaking loads of existing links, and by using WebTrends tracking code without making this clear to users. Also, while everybody loves YouTube, it may not be the best idea to serve WhiteHouse.gov videos from there. YouTube is owned by Google, which was one of Obama's contributors.
White House website changes again (Transparency in action?) (whitehouse.gov 1/22/09)
This time, the Pool Report link is gone...
New White House Site Still Hostile to Bush (American Spectator January 21, 2009)
Best thing since sliced bread!
“Direct from the source, the Republican Leader’s web site.
Any bets on when the media will cover this story?”
When they are figure skating in hell?
The Republican leadership needs to quit issuing “statements” from the comfort of their office and go on every television and radio station and scream it out loud. It’s pretty sad when Rick Santelli is one of the most vocal spokesmen we have calling bs on all this mess. This is quickly getting to the torches and pitchforks stage for me.
Drunk Sailors now run the Federal Government.
Stock market collapsing, you say?
Shocking.
The Dow is down 120 points at 12:45.
Once the market collapses, Soros will just buy it.
Why doesn’t Boner post it himself?
And highlight the most onerous provisions?
“Boehner: Democrats Should Post Half-Trillion Dollar Omnibus Spending Bill ONline Immediately”
Why? The Democrats won.
This country is now a dictatorship of the proletariat, is it not? (And the electoral college is outmoded, too.)
IMHO

XR7 wrote:I agree. The problem is that the Republicans lack strong leadership. Also, the current leadership (and much of the current Republican party) lacks credibility on fiscal issues. It's an unfortunate legacy from the early Bush years. The Republicans spent like drunken sailors and gave up their principles of fiscal responsibility. They lack credibility on fiscal issues now. We need new leaders to step up. Ones who can credibly stand up for fiscal responsibility.
Why doesnt Boner post it himself?
The other problem is that the Party Propaganda Ministry (formerly known as "the media") won't cover Republicans, especially when they oppose Obama, The Chosen One.
Still, there should be Republicans on all talk radio talking about this Democrat coup in progress. And they should be posting their own updates on web sites like this, and taking the press releases to the friendly Internet news sites, rather than posting them on their own house web sites and hoping that friendly press will find them.

Fiscal Year 2009 Budget (FY09)
Transmitted to Congress on February 4, 2008. Covers the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2008.
******
This is the budget that should have been passed before October 1, 2008!!!!
No “inquiring mind” in the entire political press corps has mentioned that these appropriations bills were just punted last year.
Our entire government has been operating on “continuing resolutions” since the end of September 2008.
IMAGINE THE CRITICISM if a Republican-led Congress had done this.
IMAGINE the Criticism if a Republican-led Congress had tried to pass a mammoth ‘stimulus’ bill without having the Fiscal 2009 Appropriations passed.
Our Congress and Media are TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL.
I rarely yell on FR but this needs to be screamed!
That's usually a September-October kind of catch all bill when they can't get some of the individual appropriations bills done.
These irresponsible twits didn't pass a single appropriations bill last year. This Omnibus bill that they are working on now is to finish last year's business. They have to do that before they can move on to this year's business.
I have been waiting and waiting for one “journalist” to mention the words “not passed FY 2009 Budget Appropriations” ever since the first of this year.
It is revolting how criminally blind our so-called press corps is in their fanatical desire to get socialism in place in our United States.
They are worse than Pravda. Pravda has covered the Birth Certificate issue.
Maybe because the democrats won’t give it to him.
They did give it to him.
He threw the banded together 1100+ pages down on the House floor while giving a speech before Congress chastising everyone for not reading it.

That was the Porkulus bill.
Oops!
Yer right.
Well, there’s no reason why he cannot post Son of Porkulus* or Porkulus II* on his website, is there?
* Plural = “Porkuli”
BTW: There actually were a couple of huge porkers that got rammed through before The One was elected. If you’ll recall, there was the Bush Bailout, and then in the summer of 2008, the secret multibillion budget bill which passed without any media coverage and which GWB signed into law. Add ‘em all up - we’re screwed (and so are our grandkids).
