LA TIMES: Roland Burris must go
LA Times ^ | February 19, 2009 | OpEd

Posted on 02/19/2009 10:33:56 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

If Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) had been appointed by any governor other than Rod R. Blagojevich, his dissembling on whether he tried to raise funds for his benefactor might not be fatal. But when the governor is recorded saying of the open seat that "I'm just not giving it up for [expletive] nothing," any appointee of his had better be beyond criticism and totally forthcoming. Burris is neither, and he should step down.

Burris' explanations of his contacts with Blagojevich's aides and fundraisers have shifted as often as changes in the weather. [snip]

It doesn't matter whether there was a quid pro quo behind Burris' appointment. By failing to level with investigators and the public, he has forfeited all credibility. He should resign to make way for an untainted appointment by Gov. Pat Quinn, who would have chosen a new senator in the first place if Blagojevich had had any sense of shame.

I realized Burress was toast when Dick ‘Turban’ Durbin referred to him yesterday as ‘Mr Burress’ not ‘Senator Burress’.

Now, about Chris Dodd and Barney Frank.....

As someone pointed out on an earlier thread, he Burris served his purpose. He was the 60th vote on the Porculus bill. Now they don’t need him any more.

We might be better NOT giving him the boot, since if we do, they may put someone in with a better chance of getting re-elected in two years. Otherwise, maybe we can replace him with a Republican senator.

Let the Dirty Dems and their media flunkies fight this one out.

Ignore his votes. We Conservatives NEED BURRIS precisely because he's such a typical Democrat and is such an embarrassment to Obama.

Burris has been condemned by the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and now the LA Times.

These are all elements of the DNC machinery and cannot be trusted to hold America's interests to heart.

Reminds me of the old Roman Empire where the Praetorian Guard actually auctioned off the Emperor's office (this happened only once). A tremendously wealthy Roman bought the office, paid off the Guard, and enjoyed a month of power and luxury.

Then they killed him and put a real guy in place.

Folks grab a cold drink, an easy chair, the remote, and turn on the TV. It is going to fun watching the Dems try to get rid of a black guy. It does not get any better than this.

I’m not sure the Senate has the stomach for it. They’ll probably wait for him to be indicted first.

Besides being right out of the Chicago Graft Machine, this guy seems more than a little off kilter. He and Byrd have more in common than just their party.

Agreed. They picked Burris in the first place because they needed a quick appointment and they needed a black guy so the Senate couldn’t block it.

Now let the corrupt Dems who put him in do the heavy lifting when it comes to removing him.

Conservatives and Republicans should sit back and shut up on this one.
