Rove Responds to Axelrod
Karl Rove, a former senior adviser to President George W. Bush, insisted in an interview with "Today" show host Matt Lauer this morning that he had every right to offer his analysis of the economic strategy adopted by the Obama Administration -- a response to critical comments made by Obama senior adviser David Axelrod in an interview with the Post last week.
"I am not giving him advice, I am commenting on what they are doing," Rove told Lauer. "And I'm sure even this White House would say people have the right to offer an opinion."

Rove went on to argue that it was Democrats -- particularly former President Bill Clinton -- who were largely responsible for the current economic mess due to their lax regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; Rove called the failure of those two entities the "biggest accelerant" in driving the economic collapse and made a point to note that Obama failed to side with the Bush Administration's attempt to tighten regulations on Fannie and Freddie earlier this decade.
Rove's comments came just days after Axelrod, in an interview with the Post's Lois Romano, told a group of senior advisers that their criticisms of the new Administration were off base.
"The last thing that I think we are looking for at this juncture is advice on fiscal integrity or ethics from Karl Rove -- anyone who's read the newspapers for the last eight years would laugh at that," said Axelrod.

Rove is a smart idiot. I would love to know why he let Bush hole up for 6 years and not tell us $hit. He let every loser in the world attack Bush and define him, and did nothing.
And Axelrod has history here in Chicago of playing both sides of issues for the evil luchre. Scratch the surface on him and you have any other opportunistic political bastard. It really is about the money.
Well, actually, no. Obama would love nothing better than stifling all conservative opinion. The censorship doctrine is up next.
Unfortunately I agree with you. Whether the responsibility for the horrible communications coming from the Bush administration is Rove’s responsibility or Bush’s own for the “new tone”, they irresponsibly allowed lies to be aired and fester into fabricated truths. Simply a disaster.
Ari Fleischer did a fine job in the early days. Whoever hired McClelland should be retired from GOP politics permanently. By the time the late Tony Snow got there it was too late. The negative perceptions and untruths had already taken hold.

I'd speculate that Emanuel and Axelrod are a third party's "inside men", charged with telling Obama what to do.
Both of them are only too ready to volunteer comment publicly on policy plans outside of the political sector -- something that Rove or Card would never have done.
You raise an appropriate criticism of the former Administration. They had the horsepower, the Conservative views, the majority of the voters, and the opportunities and they let the media, Hollwood and the Democrats direct the country. And they did a lousy job explaining things along the way. Shame on them, and now we have...
Yeah, it’s funny how Rove and Cheney and Republicans are suddenly getting gonads AFTER the fact. When they had power and were getting crucified by the Left they were completely silent. Rove is either too optimistic, or too polite. Between the "Fairness" Doctrine and speech codes, this White House represents the worst of liberalism, and they are especially fond of censorship. They do not believe their opponents have the right to free speech or even to hold a differing opinion silently.
