Associated Press Writer HELENA, Mont. (AP) Firearms manufactured and used in Montana would be exempt from federal regulation, under a bill the Montana House is supporting.
House Bill 246 aims to circumvent federal authority over interstate commerce, which is the legal basis for most gun regulation in the United States. The bill could have the effect of releasing Montana gun owners from federal registration requirements.
The measure applies to firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition that are made and sold in the state.
The bill's sponsor, Republican Rep. Joel Boniek of Livingston, says his proposal is more about states' rights than about gun rights.

This is real Stimulus.
As near as I can tell this movement appears to have been initiated by a libertarian group. I haven't done the research to track down the genesis however. God bless 'em, whoever and wherever they are!
I have come to understand that this is perhaps the only way to save our liberty from nationwide socialism/fascism.
I have come to the same conclusion. For the better part of a hundred years it seems the states were our watchmen when it came to an overbearing feral government. They jeolously guarded their, and coincidentally our rights with something approaching "eternal vigilance". Since the Civil War, many states still appeared to be proactive in many areas but as more time passed and more infringements from the fedguv were endured by the states, the powers GUARANTEED by the Constitution to the states began to erode and move towards the feral beast. Even so, nothing has really changed Constitutionally. With noted exceptions(16th, 17th eg), there have been NO amendments re the diminution of states' rights. Laws/rules/regulations/mandates and other infringements handed down from the DC mount notwithstanding, the states still have their original positions in relation to the fedguv, if they but choose to assert them.
We have to pressure our state legislatures to stand up and assert state sovereignty.
ABSOLUTELY! And support and encourage those making the moves towards reclaiming their rightful postions as the dog and NOT the tail.
State officials have a constitutional DUTY to resist unconstitutional 'laws'.. -- And if they insist on an opinion [on this basis] before the SCOTUS, they cannot lose.
The ensuing constitutional crisis could only result in making idiotic decisions like 'Wickard v Filburn, 1942' null and void.
Thanks for the after lunch smile!!
Idaho is a Very Red State & Thank God for that!!
Our friend moved around Flathead Lake and shortly after his arrival they had a Gay Pride parade...L.O.L
He claimed Idaho had to many transplant liberals...L.O.L
Idaho is the State that throws “objects” that are not bolted down at our Senators during Town hall meetings {Craig}He joined with Bush over the Border issue
Thanks FGS.
We really need this in Texas.
Music to my ears! We don't have to tolerate this crap. We can walk. The world will notice if they try to shoot us. (the world will also notice us shooting back if they do!)
Ted Turner, founder of CNN, is a resident of Montana...
Add me to the list, please.
Do you suspect it was designed to do just that???
Done, and welcome aboard.

The last time I was in MT, I asked that question and got the following answer: "The best way to make a small fortune by moving to Montana is to bring a big one."
That said, I love it dearly and would move there happily if either a job opportunity arose or if, God forbid, Georgia crossed the line into tyranny.
Below zero temperatures are easier to bear when you're free.
Please add me to your ping list
Thanks

Add to that:
The scenery, wildlife, and topography are just plain boring—Montana makes Indiana seem like Disney on steroids (no offense to Hoosiers); the water is terrible—if you can find it; the air is thick enough at sunup to float a crowbar and by sundown it has turned so solid that the buzzards and other carrion eaters just walk on it from one dead tree to the next; the people are just downright mean—probably due to the unchecked overcrowding; it gets so cold in the winter that you have to bring the antifreeze inside to keep it from freezing, and it gets so hot in the summer that the mud on your shoes turns to glass; you can always spot a 4th+ generation native Montanan: one leg is 4” shorter than the other; this is a genetic trait that evolves after three generations of leaning constantly at a 45-degree angle while walking into the nonstop Cat 4 hurricane-force wind . . . that’d be a “calm” day.
+1 “Moscow in the Rockies.” I couldn't find a pair of boots anywhere within 100 miles of Missoula, but I was able to get a great deal on a pair of Birkenstocks and a hemp beret at the “One World” shop, the one tucked between the main Starbuck’s (there's at least one on every corner) and Whole Foods. Lately, the place has been overrun with folks from Massachusetts and California: there are rumors circulating that they have introduced legislation to have the State's name changed to either Califusetts or Massafornia. As I recall, a then future POTUS staged quite the rally there not long ago. Lots of support. VERY LIBERAL state. Not a place for non-democrats. Nosireebobcattail.
Most people who move to Montana from out East simply dry up and are blown away like tumbleweeds. Some folks claim it's because they become dessicated from crying tears of despair.
NO. You certainly DO NOT want to move to Montana!

I was wondering the same thing. What would happen when a test cases arises? Let's say some Montana gun shop starts purchasing firearms that are illegal under federal law, but which would - as construed from this bill, if it passes - NOT be illegal under Montana law. The Feds come in in force, start to go all JBT on the guy. Would the Montana police step in and intervene on the shop owner's side?
This bill is a clear case of nullification, which is usually unconstitutional. However, if the laws being nullified are themselves unconstitutional, then I can't see how the Feds would have any standing beyond the willingness to use blatant, open force to enforce unconstitutional SCOTUS rulings, etc. (and no, "unconstitutional SCOTUS rulings" is not a contradiction in terms).
Yep, I believe you summed up the state very nicely...with the exception of not mentioning that half of Hollywood own most of the ranches in the state...including the largest land owner and proud Montanan Ted Turner...snicker.
But, Montana should be commended for the legislation. Not only they have made their state safer, but it will actually create jobs with the manufacturing”
I propose a secede action by the following states:
Idaho-Montana-Wyoming-N Dakota-S Dakota-Nebraska-Kansas-Oklahoma-Texas-Colorado-Utah-Nevada.
Call them the Westers States of America.
Slogan: Remember 9/11
Flag: White Background with a GOLD $ dollar sign.
