Ending a tumultuous year of political scandal, the Senate acquitted President Clinton of high crimes and misdemeanors yesterday, after House prosecutors failed to muster even a bare majority of senators in favor of removing the nation's 42nd president from office.

Five Republicans -- Sens. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan M. Collins of Maine, John H. Chafee of Rhode Island, James M. Jeffords of Vermont and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania -- voted to acquit on both articles of impeachment.
Appears these traitors have a long history of "crossing the asile"
Suggestion, does anyone think that a petition to Michael Steele, from FReepers requesting the three be stripped of their Committee appointments and then booted from the party, would do any good?
Second question, have FReepers ever thought of forming a PAC?
To the mods, I searched before posting this thread. This is my first post, If I made an error I apologize.
“crossing the asile”
They democrat moles, just sitting on our side of the aisle!
Oops!
“They democrat moles” should read,’Dey be demoquack moles!”
We have to be careful about such purity. I agree with your sentiments, but not always with the technique.
That's basically what happened to Rick Santorum. He was one of the most solid and reliable conservatives in the Senate. But Bush and Rove twisted his arm and pushed him to endorse Specter. He agreed, partly because Specter had earlier endorsed him in a previous election.
How did that work out? Just the opposite of what one would have hoped. Specter got re-elected, did nothing to help Santorum in the 2006 election, and Santorum lost, partly because the Specter endorsement angered many of his base, so they stayed home. Thus they bit off their noses to spite their faces, ending up with Specter and a fake "pro-life/blue-dog" Democrat.
Steele can't strip them of their committee appointments, but I would support anything else he is able to do. I think a subtler approach would be better. Simply have the Republican leadership on the hill ignore them. Don't help them with any legislation and block their amendments and ear marks whenever possible.
“Its important to remember how far back the treachery of these RINOs goes.”
Yeah, it’s amazing anyone is suprised by their actions. Bush made a huge mistake helping Specter win reelection.
So the acquittal actually happened on the 12th not the 13th. Maybe that was Bama's plan to present this legislation as 'reenactment' of Lincoln instead of the proper date that forever will be attached... black Friday the 13th...
Arlen Specter’s political career started as the Democrat Philadelphia DA.
Working undercover successfully for 40+ years may be a record.
Could also be his reward for his part in the Warren Commission.

Michael Steele wants to reach out to moderates, centrists and RINO's and make a big tent GOP. Steele is part of the problem, not the solution.
“Arlen Specters political career started as the Democrat Philadelphia DA.”
This is so typical. Just like Bloomberg, they join the R’s because it’s a weaker field & then they win & THEN we’re stuck with them.
And of course, the down side to stripping them of their seats may be that they go back to their real party & we lose the ability to filibuster.
The GOP’s refusal to act againt this cancer is the reason they will remain a permanent minority
Snow, Collins, Specter - The Three Stooges - and that is exactly what they are. The Democrats are laughing their heads off about these three convenient stooges.
They have lost all respect and credibility, and it is time for them to go. They are really not Republicans, and they certainly are not patriots. I, for one, will never forgive them for this vote.
They should be thrown out of the party. I would like to see an enforceable set of penalties for voting with the opposition, from an absence of funding to expulsion. How about it Steele?
You are right. Not stripped of assignments—thrown out. Why? Because they voted on a massive funding boondoggle - a monstrosity they did not bother to read even. They violated their oath of office and they violated the citizenship.
They are nothing less than crooked politicians. If not the slammer the Dem party should be home enough for them.
The good thing is, the directions that accompanied the birth of our Nation said Americans are not necessarily stuck with anything. Including political parties if they do not represent the will of the People.
The not so good thing is I don't think the Founders anticipated such a vast and successful program, capable as it turned out to be, that made so many people so complacent so fast.
But complacency didn't kill our resiliency and our resiliency may make filibuster capable not so important
For a brief time, anyway.
Laura Ingraham likes calling them SpecColSnow. (Pronounced
Specklesnow).
Neither have ever replied to any of my communications since.
Stupendous arrogance.
I sent all three of them email messages - just one word that I think sums it up: “Collaborator.”
