The Obama-Geithner Bear Market
Forbes ^ | Feb. 13, 2009 | Robert Lenzner

Posted on 02/13/2009 6:58:57 PM PST by FocusNexus

This is not the kind of stimulus our economy needs to get back on its feet when our banks still struggle with solvency.

The new spending pathetically "repeats the mistakes that got us here," says Robert Albertson, a principal at Sandler O'Neill and a former Goldman Sachs.

Only private businesses create job multiplication and true future spending power," says Albertson. "That requires a savings and investment program, not a doomed spending program. The latter tact ate up the resource base for six years during the 1930s Depression, with little or no effect on unemployment."

1. Pay off your debt.

2. Get yourself a safe, and make sure it’s not removable (e.g. bolted to the floor).

3. Make sure that some of your investments are in things like cash and precious metals.

4. Make sure that some of those precious metals are in your PHYSICAL possession.

5. If you’re really feeling paranoid, take a plane trip to SUI, buy some gold THERE, and put it in a safety-deposit box.

6. Examine your purchases and get rid of anything that’s extraneous.

This is just a short list, and even I’m only just starting out. We have some very bright people here, and I’m sure that more can be added. The point is that we don’t have to go down with the ship.

BINGO!

The GOP was ready to make nice with Obambi-- but he let Pelosi and Reid run the show.

The House Republicans didn't get to make any amendments to the Porkulus Bill. So how is their "cooperation" even relevant?

That little snide remark about "destructive lack of cooperation from the Republicans" undermines the credibility of the article rather than enhancing it ("moderates" often try to blame both parties equally to seem "fair"). B.S.

No, the MSM isn’t going to be making up stories about an economic recovery. It’s going to do the opposite. We’re going to have another great depression and with it a great leader of the people. The MSM is in a race with the Obama administration to be the most melodramatic and condescending.

Obama has already failed, whatever the successes his administration may have, because he has failed to display the most fundamental attribute of a great or even good president: He has not leveled with the American people.

You don't seem to get it. He won. He RULES. You shut up.

(nothing personal, I'm just making a rude point)

We are in for at least a decade of going sideways, just when the baby boom generation is retiring. This must be a master strategy to make all of us baby boomers wards of the state in our retirement. We never dreamed we'd retire being serfs of colossal government.

Read the stimulus bill that just passed tonite. You will not only end op broke but they are going to ration away your healthcare so you don't become a burden to Social Security.

SOILENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice article, thanks for the link.

Sounds like Obama has everything backwards from what worked before.

The Dems try to present the plan as some help finally to the poor and middle class. But their tactics for helping are wrong (maybe not all wrong, but mostly).

You don’t have to be an Economist at a major University to understand that World War II brought us out of the Depression not FDR’s New Deal.

I am afraid that history is about to repeat itself.

I think you are right. What was that he said in his inaugural speech? Something about "storm clouds gathering?" Enough to make you shiver-- and accept all kinds of autocratic violations of your Godgiven liberties.

When the thugs take over it has to be framed as necessary to keep 'the people' safe, so the bigger the and more immediate the threat the better.

Mayhap someone writing the article typed in "tactic" incorrectly and blindly clicked on the wrong suggestion within spellcheck?

Cheers!

Newt Gingrich had interesting comments on Greta's show on Thursday. He made the point that tax dodger Geithner makes a good case for flat tax: “Even the head of IRS cannot figure out how to file his taxes.”

They don’t care about economic recovery. They only care about total control.

Through and through. The rats are rapidly consolidating their power and have no intention of ever giving it up. From creeping socialized health care, earmarks to unions, Acorn, big city mayors, and control of the census to Rahmbo, their intentions are clear.

Once they pass card check and get rid of talk radio and perhaps forums like this, it will be over.

How exactly will they get rid of talk radio?
