The minting of 4 new Lincoln cents has got the anti-penny crowd in an uproar - complete with civil disobedience calling for the end of penny use. They're vexed at the "zinc lobby."

Considering they will be worth about 1/1,000,000th of a current value dollar soon, nope.

All your gasoline, grocery, general retail, etc. taxes rounded up to the nearest nickel? A %6 tax would become ten.

They do not.
Perhaps for sales tax increases they do.
The time wasted counting these out is silly.
People won’t even pick them up off the ground.
Caution strong language, but funny!....

I love the artwork of the new coins though but..
Honor Lincoln some other way!

No, but neither do dollars/$$$$$ make sense—else why would “h” be shoveling them by the trillions down his gubmint blackhole?

The last time the US got rid of a coin was the half cent in 1857. A half cent back then is worth about ten cents now. Getting rid of it was the equivalent of dumping the penny, nickel and dime now and just using quarters as the smallest value coin. It is long past time to dump the penny.

“A %6 tax would become ten.”
Actually, it only would if you purchase something for a dollar. As far as purchase greater that $1, it would never be more than 4 cents per purchase.
For example, if you bought something for $52.46, with 6% sales tax it would come to $55.61. Without a penny you would have to round (up I assume) to $55.65. The effective tax rate on that purchase is 6.08%, not 10%.

I’ll say it again, “Get rid of the filthy dollar bill! Dollar coins only!” Dollar bills become germ ridden and wear out in no time. We keep paying over and over, to print new ones. I get coins at the bank, and use them all the time. Also ask for coinage as change from merchants.
To: lakeprincess
We lose several billion dollars every year because we keep making pennies from what I recall.
