Lost in the overall cratering in the stock market yesterday in reaction to Tim Geithner's awful "soiled the bed" TARP II presentation yesterday -- New York Times Company stock closed at $4.23. As of 3:30 PM today, the stock was up 12 cents.
Yesterday's close is the stock's lowest point since the company went public in July 1986, and is down over 50% in real terms during that time:

By the time that paper tanks, the debt load will be so great they’ll have to give money to someone to get them to take it. Besides, all the voting shares stay in the Sulzberger family. Buy general stock in the Times and you get on their trolley and they call the shots. You’re just along to pay the bills and keep your mouth shut.

You guys are funny. The Pinch family has taken care of that by making sure you can only buy stock that doesn’t allow you to vote! That’s the way they have been fleecing anybody stupid enough to buy any shares. No matter how low the stock goes, nobody can take over the thing and make it into a trustworthy newspaper again. It’s the mother of all poison pill.

It amazes me that I imagine the demographic who’d probably be interested in reading a newspaper would be a white person older than the age of 30... the exact same demographic that newspapers continue to insult.
The last time I cancelled they gave me Wednesday through Sunday for the price of what was formally just the Sunday paper.
Last week the renewal notice came and I wrote "CANCEL" on it and mailed it back.
Today I have had three calls begging me to renew.
Told them when they start reporting the news fairly and objectively without liberal talking points that even find their way into the sports pages, they won't have to call me to subscribe, I will already gladly be doing so. Until then, don't bother me.
Life will go on just fine without the old grey lady.
Well, it closed up $.10 today at $4.33, which would be its all time record low except for yesterday.
Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know....LOL! Was making a have-a$$ed joke....
