Heart-ache: Palin backs out of CPAC

Rush will still be there, but it’s not really “grassroots Woodstock” anymore without her. Now, because of the letdown, it’s more like grassroots Altamont: Plenty of good acts and one great one to close the show, but an angry, angry crowd nonetheless. The opening-day headliner for the annual CPAC conservative convention February 26-28, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has pulled out, citing state business in Juneau. “We’re obviously disappointed,” said a CPAC official. A spokesman for the three-day confab, organized by the American Conservative Union Foundation and others, said that Palin, the popular former vice presidential nominee, had indicated she would be able to attend but cited “duties of governing” in bowing out. Instead, she will send in a taped message. The Democrats up there have been grumbling about her being out of state so much. Maybe she figured she could either get away for the Alfalfa Dinner or CPAC but not both and had to make a hard choice. Exit question: Huckabee to replace her? The message, at least, will be similar. And he’s anti-stimulus!

We need to get Gert Wilders instead. He would really enjoy himself among the choir.

I’ll miss seeing Sarah but I’ll enjoy seeing Rush and Ann.

“She will appear at CPAC in the next couple years”

The Presidential campagin has already started.
Her first test will be the 2010 midterms...whoever raises the most money and does the most campaigning for GOP midterm candidates will get positive articles written about them in political and mainstream journals, internet, cable etc.

Those who don’t do well will be seen as failures for not setting up strong national organizations...It’s just the way it is.

Wow, responsibility, what an old-fashioned concept.

The Dems in Alaska are lightweights and political vote counting 101 dictates they are irrelevant.

I never said they weren't (lightweights). Their relevance, however, will be determined by the voters. I didn't think Al Franken was particularly relevant either. Or Obama and the Chicago machine, for that matter. Funny thing about voters...

Nationally, this makes her look not so politically astute and bordering on naieve.

Thanks for the opinion. It could also mean she's just about decided to chuck national politics for the sake of her family. I'd hate to see it but sure wouldn't blame her. Who knows what's on her mind in making this decision. I sure don't.

She is the reason I activated for McCain so it pains me to say these things.

The only recent comments I've seen from you about her are complaints about her "taxing Big Oil" and griping about her being as "liberal" as Huckabee while people on this forum bash Romney.

I'll take you at your word though.

You should try reading a deeper chronology of events when it comes to my posts.

Search Palin and me lol.

...and then my ill-researched friend you can stop the ad hominem and debate the facts of Palin’s properly or improperly building a national organization.

I agree. I understand people who got tickets just to see her being upset but other than that I don't understand the freak out. If anything I think she needs to let things simmer down a little.
If she went, all the news (including FoxObama) would have talked about is the phony Todd contempt charge and the Attorney General stepping down. That wouldn't help her or anyone else who appears there.

Are they grumbling about Obama being out of the White House so much?
F-THEM, Palin needs to do what she wants.

She was never confirmed, only invited, as her media office and CPAC itself have emphasized all along.

Yes, and those reports claiming she must have accepted because she had a timeslot are those who don't recall past CPAC events.

Governor Sarah Palin has a volcano to worry about back home...

Hmmm...that would be a great show...Gov. Palin speech before a volcano backdrop...!

there’s no other conservatives attending

So as you see it, Rush Limbaugh is not a conservative?

Wow. Talk about bitter. The primary's LONG over but I see some Sore Loserman types still can't get over their guy falling behind and thus can't resist the urge to CONSTANTLY rip on Huckabee every chance they get. Yeah, keep spitting in the face of a guy who's fighting tooth and nail AGAINST Obama's stimulus package and who led the fight against the Geither and Holder nominations. That will wonders for the conservative movement when you trash anyone who's not YOUR favorite candidate. I guess Obama must be the true conservative here if "socialist" Huckabee is against his agenda, right?

Well as long as you feel the need to take potshots and scream "Elmer Gantry socialist Democrat" at people who agree with you 90% of the time , here's one for the guy FR worshipped as savior of the world:

even on the posted CPAC schedule which gave her a timeslot, the notation (invited) was posted next to her name-—obviously indicating that she had not confirmed.

...it’s more like grassroots Altamont:...an angry, angry crowd...

Stupid analogy.

There was not an angry crowd at Altamont, much less an angry angry one.

The time difference would make it tough.

I don't know about that.

Alaska has so many time zones she could probably get back home before she even leaves for CPAC.
