President Barack Obama has pioneered a route towards Syria that is distinctive from that of his predecessor President Bush, dispatching congressional delegations and signaling a rare authorization to sell Damascus plane parts for repairing two aging Boeing 747s.
The overture comes as this Mediterranean country recently signed a memorandum to purchase 50 passenger jets from Airbus (a deal purportedly worth billions), despite Washington's trade sanctions begun in 2004 over Syria's alleged aid to militants in Iraq and destabilization of Lebanon.
Mr. Obamas moves are being greeted with vast relief.
"Two days ago, we received from the U.S. Trade Department the approval needed for rehabilitating two Boeing 747s which were not in use," Transport Minister Ya'rob Badr told reporters.
"We regard this initiation from the new U.S. administration as a positive indication," the minister added, revealing the state-owned airline carrier has signed a memorandum with Airbus to take delivery of the first 14 Airbus airliners between 2010 to 2018, with a further 36 planes to be delivered by 2028.

Report: Obama Administration Easing Sanctions On Syria
Syrian Transportation Minister Dr. Yaarob Badr has said that the U.S. Department of Commerce has approved the export to Syria of spare parts for two Boeing 747 airplanes.
He said that the planes had been grounded due to the Bush administration’s sanctions against Syria, and that Syria sees the new American administration’s approval for the shipment of parts as a positive signal.
He added said that Syria had signed a memorandum of understanding with the French Airbus company for the import of 14 planes, beginning in 2010.

Headline news, 1 year from now: “In a shocking attack similar to the that upon the United States, terrorists flew 2 747 jumbo liners into Tel Aviv today, one striking the Knesset, the other into downtown Tel Aviv. First report indications were that they were filled with explosives and shrapnel.”
BTTT.
If they like Airbus enough to buy a bunch of them instead of dealing Boeing then let them get their damned parts from Airbus. At least we could have held out for an order for new planes from Boeing.
These guys are just so naive. So much so it makes it hard to tell if they do the damage they do on purpose or if they're just too stupid to know the difference. In the end it doesn't matter WHY they do it, the enemy has what it wanted and they see it as a victory over the Great Satan.
We're back to ground zero. They are going to play nice and hope for reciprocity. Our enemies will take whatever they can get from us under the false pretenses being friends with a new administration and by the time Team Obama figures it out the enemy will have not been weakened one bit and they will be out of office.
That’s the object of all of Obama’s “stage” shows...beating you over the head until you conform.
... your mugger and I are negotiating a trade deal.

I added tax evaders to the list after the light was shown on Zer0’s tax avoiding proposed cabinet members.
Excellent. Parts to repair two flying suicide missiles.
How many tons of high explosives can be packed into a 747?
Just askin...
