Lawmaker says he wants to reclaim Utah lands ( Sagebrush Rebellion )
abc 4 ^ | February 8, 2009

A state lawmaker said Friday he wants to reclaim Utah's lands and resources from the federal government so the public can use them for recreation and energy development.

Rep. Michael Noel, R-Kanab, said he's declaring another Sagebrush Rebellion. The original Sagebrush Rebellion took place in the 1970s and 1980s, when a coalition of mining and grazing interests pressured federal policy makers to cede greater control of federal lands to state and local authorities.

Noel said that Utah can "take care of itself," and that the federal government shouldn't be allowed to regulate what the state can do with its own resources.

"States created the federal government," he said. "The federal government did not create the states."

Hundreds of recreation activists, including Utah Jazz legend Karl Malone, rallied in the Capitol on Friday, saying they want multiple-use access for federal lands.

"No way they're going to kick us off of what we own," Malone said.

Brad Johnson of Murray grew up in Utah riding all-terrain vehicles on the state's trails. But he said many of those trails have been closed.

"It's like we're just always defending ourselves from a constant attack,"

Ready for a new Sagebrush Rebellion?

Some Utahns apparently are.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,705283052,00.html

It is time for Utah to take actions.

In 1992 Utah which had the lowest pro-Clinton vote in the nation, 25%, was Utah.

1996 Clinton takes revenge:

''I feel like I'm back in the 1850's again, with the Federal Government encamped all around us,'' Chris Cannon, the denim-jacketed candidate, says in a television commercial as he leads his horse through sagebrush that resembles parts of the newly created 2,700 square mile (1.7 Million acre) Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. ''Now Clinton takes our land.''

November, 2008 was Utah a red state?

WASHINGTON, DC, February 4, 2009 (ENS) - Sales of oil and gas leases on 77 parcels of land (Covering 132,000 acres) near national parks and monuments in Utah were halted today by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. The parcels were auctioned by the Bureau of Land Management in December 2008.

Obama takes revenge in 2009?

Hopefully you can tear up that road from CA

I-15 is always pretty torn up. But those darn Collyfornians keep finding a way in, anyway!

I think it's no small coincidence that Utah is the most conservative state and we also have the best economy (thus far).

Yeah, and he’s a Blue Dog Dem. I’ve even voted for him, but won’t anymore, now that he supported Pelosi’s Porkapalooza.

We saw a USFS employee ram her pickup truck into the portable toilet at a trail staging area, just to have an excuse to shut it down.

USDA OIG for fraud, waste, and abuse - 800-424-9121. I'd call the deliberate and willful destruction of public propery (both the vehicle and the toilet) a fraud, waste and abuse qualifier. Please call them. I would, but I didn't witness it.

Let me tell ya - if UT takes back the shale oil and other minerals Uncle Sam stole by UT taking em back using states rights (9th and 10th Amendment) - you will be one of the wealthiest states in the union too. ;-) The UT populace is also smart enough to “get it.” The states rights wildfire is already moving in 21 states.

Tear up I-15. ;-) I only have been to Salt Lake airport but the mtns surrounding it were beautiful.

I suspect that the Federal Government does not hold title to any of this land, if someone would go to the registrar of deeds in the countys the land is in, I believe they would find that the State of Utah holds deed to the land.

I couldn’t vote for any Dem for the House. My liberal Dem Congressman voted against Porkulus, but he still won’t get my vote for obvious reasons.

You hit the nail on the head. Great post. The left, enviros is in bed with the Saudis and their pals. The Saudis bought off all Euro politicians - the web site www.oilforimmigration.com says it all in the URL. They took over Europe.

The evironmentalist are doing their dirty work because it is about power and control. Al Gore is a HUGE shareholder in occidental Petroleum (OXY). His old man was pals with Aramand Hammer who did business in the Soviet Union. Oxy has a polluting zinc min on gore’s property in TN which he gets royalties from. Gore has become incredibly wealth as has Bill clinton.

They want us to be energy serfs to the Saudis/UAE/Iran/etc.. I pray the people of Utah and Mormons take back the shale oil deposits and other minerals that clinton stole to benefit Indonesia’s Riady Group. Indoenesia/?? Hmm... who has a passport from there??

Go Utah. Please do not back down.

I suspect that the Federal Government does not hold title to any of this land,,,,

I have no idea who holds title to the land but Clinton killed two birds with one rock.

#1 Revenge for his 3rd place finish in Utah with only 25% of the vote for president in 1992.

#2 Repaid the Lippo Group for their illegal donations:

In 1996 President Clinton issued an executive order creating the 1.7 million acre Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah - making the only other known "low sulfur" deposit off limits for commercial mining.

Thus, Lippo obtained control of the world's only low sulfur coal mine.

The son of Lippo founder Moctar Riady, James Riady recently plead guilty for passing illegal donations to the Clinton/Gore political campaigns.

The federal govt's land dispersal policies worked well east of the 98th meridian and were a failure to the west. That is because the 98th meridian is the wet-dry line and those smaller acre parcels to the east were workable because they had adequate rainfall.

As a contrast, you compare federal policies to Texas policies. Texas retained her lands when she entered the union and dispersed her western lands in very large increments.

It is generally accepted that Congress did this because the previously settled eastern half of the nation was trying to limit the economic/political power of the west.

'The Great Plains' authored by Walter Prescott Webb, published in 1932, is still in print and considered the authority on settlement of the west.

They can easily tie Obama's hands on this one, too. The "CleanCoal Coalition" (or some such group) has been running ads featuring Obama talking about American being able to use clean coal, since we were able to send a man to the moon in ten years.

Well, about 15 years ago, Clinton took some Indonesian money, and declared some Utah lands to be federal parklands. It just so happened that Indonesia and Utah happened to have the only two major deposits of some kind of ultra-clean burning coal.

These guys can talk about re-opening those lands, to help the US economy, to help Obama's vision of cleaner-burning coal, and to create jobs. The Left would have a very tough time fighting it, especially if we kept Clinton's corruption as a quiet bargaining chip in the deal.

Okay UT but not just lands to ride your ATVs around on. You want that clean coal Clinton and the Feds stole and made into a park. You want your state rights back and the state should own the land not the Feds. The coals is worth hundreds of billions and could help reboot bankrupt America by creating jobs and wealth.

Think big Utah.
