Homeland Security hopes to begin construction next month on the latest version of its much-maligned and costly "virtual fence" on the U.S.-Mexico border.
More than two years have passed and more than $400 million in taxpayers' dollars have been spent on the Secure Border Initiative Net (SBInet) project, which still hasn't produced an effective virtual fence.
The only system operating along the border is the "Project 28" prototype near Sasabe, southwest of Tucson, a grid of nine sensor towers that is still plagued with problems. It will be replaced by the new version whenever it goes up.

BORDER PING
great - if they’re so good they can replace the fence around the whiteyhouse with one
Yep, unfortunately it's become and all too typical reaction. A "virtual fence" erected to attempt to stop real live murderous thugs coming up from Mexico. Butterflies and unicorns.....
Shouldn’t take too long. Like the virtual door I put between my kitchen and living room. It’s invisible and I can walk right through it. Took no time at all.
Great. The guy "monitoring the project" is an open borders jerkwater. This is going to be yet another fiasco, when the people in charge don't care whether it works or not.
That’s a good idea — try it on the White House. I think we should get an Israeli crew in. They’d have it up in 3 months at under $1M.
Quite possibly but like you I don’t know the technical workings of the thing. Maybe there is some way to filter out known animal triggers.
Anything less is a cover-up.
The response as I understand it, is to dispatch a BP vehicle to check out what triggered the alarm and take appropriate action.
Since these fools think a “virtual fence” is so effective, I promise to pay my taxes with “virtual money”.
“Bronk, the Rice University expert monitoring the project, asked, “To keep economic migrants out of the United States, wouldn’t $400 million be better spent elsewhere such as doing economic development in Mexico?
Great. The guy “monitoring the project” is an open borders jerkwater. This is going to be yet another fiasco, when the people in charge don’t care whether it works or not.”
While I don’t agree with his conclusion, I do agree with the sentiment.
We have given Trillions to Countries in other hemispheres and Continents, yet we don’t pay attention to those in our own Hemisphere or Continent.
As an example only, out of 195 Countries we give foreign aid to, Mexico is 139th. This means we have given more to:
Nicaragua
Liberia
Ecuador
Costa Rica
Kenya
Haiti
Sri Lanka
Guatemala
Congo (Kinshasa)
Dominican Republic
Poland
Honduras
Denmark
Tunisia
Sudan
Chile
Norway
Ethiopia
Portugal
Bolivia
Austria
Peru
Morocco
El Salvador
Cambodia
Afghanistan
Bangladesh
Laos
Iran
Belgium
Russia
Thailand
Colombia
Netherlands
Spain
Jordan
Brazil
Indonesia
Serbia and Montenegro
Iraq
Philippines
Japan
Germany
China (Taiwan)
Greece
Italy
Pakistan
France
India
Turkey
United Kingdom
Korea, South
Egypt
Vietnam
Israel
...than to Mexico.
Now, it seems to me, that IF (capital IF) we are going to be Nation building, maybe we should begin in our own neighborhood? Which, BTW, Russia is currently doing to our detriment.
How secure would our borders be if we had American Military installations on the border between Mexico and Guatemala and Belize?, if we had a port for our Navy on the East and West coast of Mexico?
$ 1,352,511,000,000
That’s how much we given given out since 1946.
(say, Brother, can you spare a dime?)
Just like Fulda? LOL
It will virtually be effective, too!
