WAPO-Steele's Campaign Spending Questioned/ Agents Contact Sister After Ex-Aide's Claims
Washington Post ^ | 2-7-09 | Henri E. Cauvin

Michael S. Steele, the newly elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, arranged for his 2006 Senate campaign to pay a defunct company run by his sister for services that were never performed, his finance chairman from that campaign has told federal prosecutors.

Federal agents in recent days contacted Steele's sister, a spokesman for Steele said yesterday. (snip)

Fabian's claims emerge as Steele begins his new role at the RNC, where he oversees the raising and spending of hundreds of millions of dollars in party money. The former Maryland lieutenant governor has faced questions about his handling of campaign money in prior elections and was twice fined for missing filing deadlines.

The recent allegations outlined four specific transactions. In addition to the payment to Steele's sister, Fabian said that the candidate used money from his state campaign improperly; that Steele paid $75,000 from the state campaign to a law firm for work that was never performed; and that he or an aide transferred more than $500,000 in campaign cash from one bank to another without authorization. (SNIP) In one of his allegations, Fabian points to a February 2007 payment by Steele's Senate campaign of more than $37,000 to Brown Sugar Unlimited, the company run by Steele's sister, Monica Turner. Campaign finance records list the expense as having been for "catering/web services." Turner filed papers to dissolve the company 11 months before the payment was received

Here it comes, folks... The Uncle Tom-ing of Micheal Steele!

Remember, with REPUBLICANS it's the "Seriousness of the allegations" that matter, NOT if they are true or not!!

Obama takes MILLIONS in illegal overseas campaign contributions on his website, and that's not news, but this is. Welcome to "Change", folks...

On the other hand, if the allegations are true, a few weeks ago I would have said hang the bastard it doesn't matter what party he belongs to, the culture of corruption must be utterly destroyed if we are to save, as Benjamin Franklin put it, "... a Republic, if you can keep it!"

Today I have a different view, although I can't tell you to what end....
If true, he can just apologize profusely, and claim he simply "made a mistake," and will never do it again.

Good bye to the culture of "what is... ...is"; welcome to the culture of "I made a mistake."

The three comservatives that pose the greatest threat to Obama are Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Michael Steele. You know when Obama and the MSM pay this much attention to a conservative that a person is hitting paydirt with their criticisms of The One.

Not exactly a left wing source reports this:

“Steele boasts that his chairmanship of GOPAC qualifies him to run the RNC. He cites GOPAC’s work to elect Republicans as good preparation. So how did GOPAC fare under Steele’s leadership? During the 2008 cycle, GOPAC gave 11 candidates seeking U.S. House seats nearly $20,000. Six won and five lost. (See my update, “The Tale of Two GOPACs.”)

Among GOPAC’s expenditures in 2008 was $5,000 to Steele for Maryland, even though Steele wasn’t on the ballot. The money probably went to pay off Steele’s 2006 campaign debt. It also happened to be the third largest expenditure for GOPAC, raising questions about the organization’s priorities under his leadership.”

If the Post had scrutinized presidential candidate Sharpton’s campaign finances this thoroughly Sharpton may have been embarrassed into returning the money he stole. Steele's real problem is the Post photo of him practically touching a blond white lady.

Glad nothing like this ever happens in the DNC. If this is true, He may be just what we need.

Anyone who thinks it’s only Democrats who are corrupt and who are freeloading off a corrupt political system is kidding him/herself.

Ah, I see they are out to destroy Michael Steele if they can.

Good thing he never said “macaca.”

Is Michael Steele really a conservative or really a RINO? The same question can be seriously asked of too many who are still in the GOP.

As many of us have stated... steele is a liberal and these are the things liberals do. It matters not which party... but which ideology.

“Is Michael Steele really a conservative or really a RINO?”

I’ve seen this kind of question posted before & don’t know enough about Steele to hazard a guess. I WAS disappointed that Blackwell didn’t get the nod for RNC.

I’m hoping that Steele puts Blackwell in a decent post in the RNC, after Blackwell endorsed Steele near the end of the voting for RNC Chair. The Blackwell votes are what helped Steele win. I like both men, and they were my choices based upon the best candidates available for RNC Chair.

This may get interesting.
