Reid: Senators Making Progress on (Porkulus Maximus) Stimulus

An impatient President Obama told a squabbling Congress today that it would be "inexcusable and irresponsible" to delay passage of his economic stimulus bill and said the loss of nearly 600,000 jobs last month underlined the urgency of their vote.

[Obama] "I hope they share my sense of urgency."

"It is inexcusable and irresponsible to get bogged down in distraction and delay while millions of Americans are being put out of work," Obama said while announcing a new economic recovery advisory board. "It is time for Congress to act. It is time to pass an Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Plan to get our economy moving again."

Republican negotiators this morning were coming and going from Sen. Arlen Specter's Capitol Hill office, including Sens. Susan Collins of Maine; Mel Martinez of Florida; Lisa Murkowski of Alaska; George of Ohio; and Specter. Democrat Tom Carper of Delaware was also seen visiting the office.

The Senate worked on the bill last night, with tempers flaring on the Senate floor.

Republicans said bipartisanship had evaporated and they are being railroaded. Democrats accused Republicans of obstruction.

"If this is the new way of doing businesses, if this is the change we all can believe in, America's best days are behind her," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

Democratic Senate leaders said Thursday afternoon that they had the votes to pass the stimulus bill and suggested they had little interest in making further changes to win more Republican support.

On Thursday, the moderate senators spending the day trying to trim the bill seem convinced that Reid had miscalculated and needed their support to pass the measure.

Reading between the lines, even with MSM hype and Barry's bully pulpit, and RINO help -- Porkulus Maximus is so bad this moron can't push it through the Senate, even with a 20 vote majority.

The C-Span screen keeps saying that 15 bipartisan sentors are trying (behind closed doors) to cut the bill by by 100 billion as they keep adding pork. 500 billion wouldn’t be enough to save this Bill.

From an e-mail:

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California, was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this ancestor.

The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory.

Photobucket

On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.'

So Judy recently e-mailed Senator Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle.

Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

'Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.'

NOW THAT is how it's done folks! That's real SPIN.

Of course this will time a while to put together a PORKULUS BILL like that.

You cannot QUICKLY put together a huge give-away, big government package like that--that costs so much money that NO ONE could possibly comprehend it.

I mean, to even begin to comprehend it--it's like spending over ONE MILLION DOLLARS/DAY SINCE THE BIRTH OF CHRIST!!

Let's give Congress some slack here--as it takes some time and a lot of effort to put together an incredibly outrageous package like that.

“Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.”

Do you think that Reid’s staff knows the real truth on this??

Might be a great idea to enlighten them.

It’s a funny (and old) joke.

I remember hearing his name was Remus Rodham. But I guess recycling old jokes is still funny.

It’s Arlen Specter and Olympia Snowe that are (maybe) on board with Democrats right now. Flood their offices!!!

Reid is such a repulsive-looking old imbecile that he doesn’t appear to be too short of a rising scandal himself.
