Posted on 02/06/2009 9:07:50 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Obama:

We're in the worst recession since the Great Depression! We've got to take this serious. We must be bold. I know, let's bbq up some pork. Let's have a pork bbq big enough to feed the entire nation. But why stop there? Let's really be bold and bbq up enough pork to feed the entire world!

I'm such a smart economist. All the rest of you only think you're economists.

Now go vote yes on my pork bbq.

Stocks were up 195 points

The stocks were up because a couple of banks said they will have not part of nationalization. And, as you said, Obama speaks and the markets go down

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high tension wires down

Helpless people on a subway trains
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Oh no, watch that budget grow go go Porkzilla
Oh no, there goes Chicago go go Porkzilla

History shows again and again
How nature points up the folly of men

Agree to a point....but talking down the economy with veiled threats and street rhetoric actually hurst the economy.

Do you seriously think Obama doesn't know that?

Read again what she said. Bush seldom went out and spoke directly to the people but Obama is doing just that. He’s wrong on the bill but that’s not the point. the point is, why didn’t Bush do this? It’s the ONLY thing Obama has gotten right.

Right or wrong, the way this creep is taking his case to the people to lean on their representatives is what a President selling his program should do.

he thoug It is what Bush really failed to do.

I have to agree. Did you see how Obama's speech in Williamsburg, VA last night just happened to pre-empt O'Reilly's 8pm ET prime time show, (and also the CNN 8pm ET show). Surprisingly, MSNBC kept Olbermann's show running.

Anyway, FNC and CNN dumped their regular programming and ran the Obama speech live for nearly a half hour.

I love President George W. Bush, but this is what I've been screaming about for 8 years - why the heck didn't he give more of his speeches in PRIME TIME so working people - just more people in general - could see/hear how good Dubya really was. Remember those rousing speeches Dubya gave with our troops roaring behind him? Only a small fraction of people saw those speeches, which usually ran during the day, around 10 or 11am ET.

At a CPAC event 2-3 years ago, my husband and I were in the audience when Karl Rove gave a speech to a small group of conservatives, and did a Q & A afterward. My husband asked him why the Bush administration wasn't doing a better job in communicating all the good that was happening under President Bush to the American people, ie give more speeches (like Obama is now) during prime time, etc. Go above the heads of the media the way Reagan did, and get the message out to the people. Many others in the audience piped up in agreement.

I love Karl, but he gave my husband that "deer in the headlights" look... he seemed perplexed at the question. Karl insisted that Presdient Bush was doing an excellent job re: communicating positive news to the American people. Next question... :-(

This is one of the few times I have watched him since Inauguration Day. My husband has a “NO OBAMA” rule in this house. We’ve just resorted to having the TV off almost all the time because you can’t get away from Hussein. He’s everywhere.

It’s too important a part of his socialist vision for America. What worries me is that I thought he was going to lead gradually to this. I didn’t expect to get it rammed down our throats the first several weeks.

I must admit, this shocked me too. Like you, I knew what his agenda was a year ago, but I thought when he picked old Clintonites that he would sneak things in here and there, take it easy and buy his next term, then having the foundation in place go hog wild. I'm surprised he started on day one. Maybe he's afraid he has little time before he is exposed.

little side-story as long as we're talking about Big O:

If you’ve ever read President Obama’s Dreams for my Father, good for you. I couldn’t get past the foreword.

I wish I had. Because today I discovered that there’s a fairly juicy little subplot in the book, involving one of Obama’s high school friends.

Ray, a fellow classmate of Obama’s, was also bi-racial, and also trying to define himself. But what set him apart was his colorful manner of self-expression. Ray cursed like a m-f-er.

This would all be snickerworthy enough, but it turns out that Obama actually read the audiobook version of
Dreams For My Father.

And that means he read Ray’s quotes.

And that means you’re about to hear the President of United States using language that would finish Cheney off once and for all.

I did read it. She's correct. He's got the right idea, but my goodness the idea, proposed solution and even the delivery is TERRIBLE.

I agree that Bush seldom went directly to the people. Part of it is I think he felt he was a doer, not a talker (whereas Obama seems a talker but not a doer). But another factor, frankly, was the hostile media. It seemed everytime he went before the media, they changed the focus from his message to his style of message. Furthermore, the Republican Party pretty much abandoned him once he became a lame duck way back in 2004. Obama has the media and apparently a fairly good alternate channel through the internet and cellphone numbers he gathered during his campaign. He also has alternate organizations such as ACORN and MoveOn pushing for him. The conservatives haven’t organized means outside the media to get out the information about their campaigns and causes. To what extent that is Bush’s fault is anyone’s guess.
