The Impending Obama Meltdown
National Review Online ^ | February 4, 2009 | Victor Davis Hanson

Some of us have been warning that it was not healthy for the U.S. media to have deified rather than questioned Obama, especially given that they tore apart Bush, ridiculed Palin, and caricatured Hillary. And now we can see the results of their two years of advocacy rather than scrutiny.

We are quite literally after two weeks teetering on an Obama implosion—and with no Dick Morris to bail him out—brought on by messianic delusions of grandeur, hubris, and a strange naivete that soaring rhetoric and a multiracial profile can add requisite cover to good old-fashioned Chicago politicking.

One would think that somewhere in this great land a college would start a jourrnalism program to train up Fourth Estate type journalists.

Well, That Certainly Didn’t Take Long [Is Maureen Dowd against the stimulus too?]

On 9/11, President Bush learned of disaster while reading “The Pet Goat” to grade-school kids. On Tuesday, President Obama escaped from disaster by reading “The Moon Over Star” to grade-school kids. “We were just tired of being in the White House,” the two-week-old president, with Michelle at his side, explained to students at a public charter school near the White House. Even as he told the children his favorite superheroes were Batman and Spider-Man, his own dream of being the superhero who swoops in to swiftly save America was going SPLAT! It just ain’t that easy.

So, can we anticipate that, when the 3:00 a.m. phone call comes in, Obama will just hide his head under the covers?

power and fuel shortages which in turn cause food shortages nationwide all because of the ‘green’ agenda..

How could we have otherwise? The EPA has just prohibited construction of a clean coal power plant in the Dakotas because of CO2 emissions, which can't be prevented with coal plants. Two other clean coal plants, one in Kansas and one in Georgia, were previously shut down by DemonRats, and they bitterly hate nuclear power. O himself has previously bragged about how his cap and trade schemes will make electric rates "skyrocket" for all fossil fuel plants, including natural gas, because they all emit CO2. That leaves with hopelessly expensive, intermittent wind and solar power. Your prediction is dead on right. Even the old New Dealers would be horrified; they wanted to restart industry, not destroy it.

Newt Gingrich has been getting a lot of air play lately. I wonder...

Gingrich throws his name out every few months to see which way the wind is blowing.

It always blows the other way.

He would get fewer Electoral votes than Dole/McCain. Talk about a losing nominee.

Where is MODO mentioned in the article and why would you be surprised that Victor Davis Hanson would write an article that is logical and factually accurate?

Not that I didn’t appreciate the article, I always do from VDH, I just don’t understand your response.

I REALLY like Mark Sanford. I like Palin too, but Sanford is the real deal.

“The difference between PRESIDENT and PRESENT is a missing “ID”.”

The missing ID is locked in a safe in Hawaii. The Freudian id might also also be missing. Then it's Manchurian Candidate time...

"We are so screwed.

Before we jump....there is a silver lining. Barky has been weakened and it'll get much worse, which at first glance looks worse since the govt. would then be run by Pelosi/Reid.

BUT...Barky's impotency, naivete, stunning inexperience, etc. will re-turn to sanity the voting populace and about 55 conservative DEMOCRATS in the House and a few more in the Senate. Who will want to associate themselves with an idiots policies? Pelosi is already trying to usurp power from Obama. It could be that our only chance not to be "so screwed" is collosal Dem disarray and we're well on our way to that.

I saw a glimmer of hope for the first time yesterday. Perhaps Coleman's victory in MN court fortells a trend.

Fox is gross. I’m sick of the lovefest they show that loser. Fox is so afraid of being labelled ‘biased’ that they swing way hard left and kiss the a$$ of 0.

Sometimes I wonder if “dumb” is a prerequisite?

I've watched Democrat policies for the last few decades. I'm not sure which is a more frightening thought: That they can lie and lie so transparently and that so many people believe them is scary. I think it might be even scarier if they actually believe what they're saying.

Taking it back an election, Kerry/Edwards got a lot of mileage out of bashing Bush's opposition to fetal stem cell research. They made the claim that if they were elected, Christopher Reeve would get out of his wheel chair and walk. There was even a commercial (not a campaign ad, but obviously put out by an outfit that supported Kerry/Edwards as a subliminal ad) that had a realistic CGI of Reeve getting up out of his wheelchair and walking.

At first, I was offended that they would so callously use the pain of a quadriplegic to pander for votes like that. Then, I started to wonder, what if they REALLY believe that if they're elected, these things will happen. What if Obama REALLY believes that by the power of a crappy speech the seas will calm and the oceans will heal?

That thought is more frightening to me than the premise of a Chicago political street hustler conning us out of money.
