President Obama welcomed the rare Republican supporter of his economic stimulus bill today when Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas arrived in the capital to lobby GOP senators to vote for it.
The Senate Republicans are prepared to fight the current package.Douglas, who is vice chairman of the National Governors Association, is bucking his party over Obama's massive economic bailout plan.
In a brief photo op with Douglas, Obama said, "What we can't do is let very modest differences get in the way of the overall package moving forward quickly."
Douglas sat next to Obama in the Oval Office and said, "If I were writing it, it might look at little different. But the essence of a recovery package is essential to get the nation's economy moving."
Debate on the Senate version of the bill, which could total $900 billion, is scheduled to begin this evening, and Obama said he believes that with changes, the bill will receive significant Republican support.
To sweeten the deal, Obama said that he would set up a board to keep track of how the stimulus money is spent.
"One of the things we're going to do is put together an independent board on the recovery package that actually looks at these programs and the money before it goes out the door," the president told NBC News Sunday during a sitdown before the Super Bowl. His remarks were released today.
Obama wouldn't comment on reports that his administration is considering creating a bank to buy up the toxic debts that are weighing down banks' balance sheets.

Obama wouldn't comment on reports that his administration is considering creating a bank to buy up the toxic debts that are weighing down banks' balance sheets. They should name it the First National Bank of the Democrat Party.

Another reason “why” RINOs should be politically hunted to extinction ...

I'm going to use that one on my wife this month.
"Hun, we can't let modest differences get in the way of my country club membership moving forward quickly."
Remember to duck.

You're behind. Sen. Oconnell[sp?], Repukian, is behind it.
Oh, I know he's said "our purpose is not to kill the bill, but to improve it..."
You'all know: more pork!

In other words, “Don´t blame me if this doesn´t work, but I´ll take credit if it does.”

The democrats are trying to make it sound like republicans have only small problems with the stimulus bill and thus we should just pass it and not worry about the small differences. Republicans need to say the entire thing is a turd and needs to be redrafted.

Rare indeed. I wonder what he gave the Gov. for his support? See this is the kind of Rinos that need to be voted out of office or not hold any type of leadership in the GOP. This is the thing that is keeping the grass roots people from helping the GOP is idiots like this that only are thinking of themselves. See he knows it's going to pass anyway, so he is getting on board to get something out of it. To hell with the party or anyone in it.

Troll? Sorry, this is a
Conservative board.
If you want to just cheer anything a Repubician[sic] says, please go a GOP board. They'd love to have you there.
As for "Repukians" (pronounced Re-puke-ians), it is a Mark Levin-ism, so I guess if that makes me a troll I'm in good company.
The fact I might have mispelled Mitch OConnell's name, (my uncertainity of the correct spelling flagged with common editor's symbol of: "[sp?]") might mean I have difficulty with spelling,
but your using it to accuse me of being a troll is a common Liberal tactic: symbolism (spelling) over the substance of my remarks. As to the Minority Leader's comments, they were broadcast just the other day.
Even Michelle Malkin (who's often as much as 2days behind the newscycle on her board because of personal appearences) has posted it as the top story.
Dear Moderator:
Is there any significance to that person including you in the "To" section? I'm new here, so I'm uncertain as to the sgnificance of its action.
To: WOSG
BTW:
here's the URL to malkin's post: http://michellemalkin.com/2009/02/02/sen-mcconnell-proposes-more-big-government-to-fix-big-government-debacle/
OConnell, McConnell, MConnell, Dummy, Sellout, whatever... If he can't be bothered to remember why the electorate sent him to DC why should we put effort into getting his name correct? Forget him, then Recall him!
But a Re-puke-ian such as yourself, is probably in full agreement with Ol' Sen McConnell's love for crap sandwiches!

In the wonderful tradition of Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords. The only way a Republican can prosper in VT is to be the biggest RINO there is. Another one to put on our hit list.

You are lying about me. You couldn’t even spell his name right and now you call him a sellout. But he is against the bill. In interviews Sundays, Sen McConnell was clearly against the mis-named ‘stimulus’ pork barrel bill. Via Foxnews:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he “can’t believe that the president isn’t embarrassed about” the stimulus packages.
He also predicted the trillion dollar boondoggle will fail:
