"Yes we can,'' the Obama campaign proclaimed. "No you can't,'' says the Obama White House of the varied attempts to cash in on the brand Obama built. Or maybe they can, or can't. The lawyers are looking into it, Bloomberg News reports"
###
President-elect Barack Obama has created his own brand - represented both by the iconic images of the candidate who campaigned for "change'' and by the "Yes we can'' and "Change We Can Believe in" slogans generated by that campaign.
Now the Obama White House, mindful of the "worldwide fascination'' about his election, First Amendment free-speech rights and ready access to video and photographs on the World Wide Web, is looking at ways to protect the brand, Julianna Goldman at Bloomberg News reports.
"White House lawyers want to control the use of the president's image,'' she reports.
"Our lawyers are working on developing a policy that will protect the presidential image while being careful not to squelch the overwhelming enthusiasm that the public has for the president," White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told Bloomberg.

Now that they have more White House lawyers than probably any other admin (est. 23), I'm sure they'll be kept very busy with a frightening number of issues.

He used tax payer money to develop those slogans. They belong to the people to use as they please.

Here it comes — anyone who uses His image to make a disparaging commentary or satire will find themselves on the wrong end of a copyright infringement law suite.
He grows more despicable daily.

"White House lawyers want to control the use of the president's image,'' she reports. If they're trying to do so for royalty purposes, this is a misuse of government resources and might constitute a "high crime or misdemeanor".

I’ll bet they are doing it so they sue the pants off political enemies for trademark infringement if they dare to print anything derogatory.

Well, when all you have going for you is an image in an advertising campaign, then I guess you need to protect it.
Media coverage of this punk reminds me of those old Tiger Beat magazines I used to buy when I was 12. "Wired" magazine is even offering a FREE OBAMA MAN OF THE YEAR POSTER! with a subscription right now.
