Life after ice storm dire, getting worse in spots (WHERE'S OBAMA...is this his Katrina?)
AP ^ | Jan 30 2009 | BRUCE SCHREINER

MARION, Ky. – In some parts of rural Kentucky, they're getting water the old-fashioned way — with pails from a creek. There's not room for one more sleeping bag on the shelter floor. The creative are flushing their toilets with melted snow.

At least 42 people have died, including 11 in Kentucky, and conditions are worsening in many places days after an ice storm knocked out power to 1.3 million customers from the Plains to the East Coast. And with no hope that the lights will come back on soon, small communities are frantically struggling to help their residents.

Will the official photographers be documenting this obama gala tonight?

It would make a revealing informational piece to contrast what is happening in real time in this extremely cold winter, with obama’s elite, nose in the air attitude.

Does he practice that nose in the air in front of a mirror, or does that just come naturally?

I guess its assumed that white people can take care of themselves. It seems thats the message the MN in the WH is sending.

He does it naturally. He's an arrogant a**, but it's a trait of a Marxist not so much the color. IMO

Why isn’t FEMA supplying emergency heating, or evacuations/shelters? I thought Obama was going to show us how things are SUPPOSED to be done in an natural emergency situation? It’s not like he couldn’t SEE the storm moving in - the weathermen knew it was going to happen DAYS in advance!!!
[I think the aid to Gaza, for example, could’ve waited a few days until we made sure the people in our OWN country had water and food! Won’t ACORN understand that the billions they’ve been promised would be better spent helping people survive the winter?]

How many days has it been now that people are FREEZING TO DEATH? And, he won’t even SHOW UP? He won’t even SAY anything about it?

His solution must be to “toughen up”, after all it’s just “Some — some ice”. After all, that’s what he told everyone in D.C. the other day... Does he even KNOW there are people dying? Does he even CARE?

WHY ISN’T OBAMA DOING SOMETHING TO SAVE THESE PEOPLE!?!?!?

He was JOKING about the ice-storm the other day! I’m sure those who are LITERALLY freezing to death don’t think it’s very funny! Talk about “out-of-touch”!!!

So much for CHANGE — eh, Obama????

/partial sarcasm off

********************
Prayers for the brave souls trying to survive the elements right now... Prayers also for those already lost, as well as their loved ones and friends.

Today I will buy 15 gallons of gas for the tractor, then start the clean up next week when the ice is gone. Right now, the danger is falling ice everywhere. We are supposed to be up around 60 degrees today.

We had 60 hours without electricity ( with a six hour period when it came on for a short time). We are On natural gas with two 5 gal bottles of propane and a propane camp stove backup, city water and two gallons of lamp oil and lots of oil lamps.

Lots of food. You might say we have been through this before. I got out and went to the store yeaterday. There were lots of people looking for non-exixtant oil and lamps, one with a cart full of little propane bottles and everyone buying food. None seemed to be prepared for this except us.

All I bought was some cold and flu medicine. Didn’t need anything else. We did well.

Pity the hospitals nine months from now.

I know just where the folks in Kentucky are at right now. We were out for a week in December here in New Hampshire. Here’s hoping for warm days and lots of line crews.

"The creative are flushing their toilets with melted snow. "

The "creative" part probably comes from the fact that most people don't know they can do that, including apparently the reporter.

The Headline could also read, “AN ICE STORM IN KENTUCKY? WHERE IS GLOBAL WARMING!”

I think everyone (at least here at FR) knows that the majority of these people are not going to sit around and complain and wait for someone else to come and save them...

But, we do need to point these things out — these same people who are now in power railed at Bush for YEARS because they thought they could’ve done it better... And, now when the shoe is on the other foot the only thing Obama has mentioned was complaining because his daughters’ private school was closed!

Incidentally, this is why I put the “partial sarcasm” tag on my post. So that people wouldn’t think I was expecting the government to take care of everyone... I just find the hypocrisy too appalling to not point it out.

Seriously though, if it’s so important that we send tax dollars to Mexico for abortions, and 20 million to GAZA for food and water, then WHY isn’t Obama declaring an emergency and using those tax dollars to help people in our OWN COUNTRY? It’s HIS philosophy, and it’s the Dems “platform” that they campaigned on for the last 4+ years - how none of us supposedly care, and how he’s going to “change the world” - so why isn’t he doing something now that he’s in charge?

“How come Obama is not addressing this? How come he has not gone there yet??? What is FEMA doing, or not doing????”

Zero is too busy planning his Super Bowl party. He is totally ineffective and only cares about his own comfort by raising the thermostat in the White House while millions are without heat or electricity. The media will cover his sorry ass as will Hollywood and the harpies on The View.

How many died in Katrina?

Good question. I’ve never seen any official stats that are listed as final. However you’ll see numbers upwards of 1300 or so. I’m not that they haven’t counted some as Katrina related deaths even though the deaths occurred sometime after the storm.

I remember when the MSM was over the top with it, like they were reporting 10,000 or more, and sadly to this day, people still believe that many died.

Seems you had a plan which one needs for these type situations. I was in Memphis, Tn Thursday and it was interesting to see as we were driving up from the South that at a point about 10-15 miles south of Memphis is where the ice/snow line began. I’m sure there was ice/snow futher south but it apparently wasn’t as much.

Take care........
