I’ve heard good and not so good about Steele, but I mainly hope he does not think he needs to pander to specific groups to win them over. That’s the Dems specialty, and the more the GOP tries the pander strategy, the worse off it will be IMO. We see what success Juan McCain had with his pandering and refusal to draw sharp contrasts with the Dems on several issues.

The Left has been using race as a crutch for a looong time to the extent it is beginning to appear as the cheap facade that it is. Do they REALLLY care about blacks, the poor, etc., or do they care about VOTES? No one in their right mind can deny the inhuman treatment blacks received up until the 60's, and pockets of racism after that. I want blacks to succeed. I want whites and browns and yellows and reds to succeed too. In fact, color is IRRELEVANT when it comes to fair policy that rewards hard work and ingenuity - rather than simple favors for voting the "right way".

Also, one thing I absolutely hate on the internet, and hate to see even more on FreeRepublic, is people who have nothing to add to the debate except patting each other on the back for having the same opinion. That kind of tactic is used by someone whose position is weak. It is an attempt to appear to be the winner of a debate purely by peer pressure rather than reason or evidence.

I agree about the third party people who are on the outide looking in, not even GOP anymore but stridently demand to have a say as to our leadership. I am very pleased with the selection, however if the Deputy pick is Jim Greer, the RPOF (Republican Party of Florida)chairman newly railroaded to re-election, my delight will be tempered by at least half. I really appreciate how Michael Steele can rip the Rats and still not sound mean. Great Choice......
