Second ballot:
168 ballots. 85 to win --
Mike Duncan - 48
Michael Steele - 48
Katon Dawson - 29
Saul Anuzis - 24
Ken Blackwell - 19
I’ve watched Fox when Steele has been a panelist. Very articulate and I’ve enjoyed listening to him.
Everyone, while you wait, read this profile of Steele. It’s interesting and inspiring:

NRO Campaign Spot says balloting is underway. Wouldn’t know it by C-Span where city workers are calling in to complain that their hours are being cut and governments need stimulus too.
Ugh.
Steele is a former state party chair, so he knows the organization better than some might think.

“Told in broad outline, Steele’s rise through the Republican ranks seems mostly free of trial and tribulation. In 1994, he won a seat on the Prince George’s Central Committee and then became county Republican chairman. In 1998, he ran in the party’s primary for state comptroller, but lost. In 2000, he became statewide party chair, the only African American in the country to hold such a post. In 2002, Ehrlich plucked him out of the pack as his running mate.”
UPDATE: There is a big crowd around Steele, only two people around Dawson. Read into that what you will.
On press row, someone just noticed it's possible for the vote to end in a 83-83 tie. Great.
Hannity endorsing Steele. LOL.
I called him an elitist. He would deny individuals the right to self defense. That, in my book, makes him an elitist.
Young Adolf had a humble background. That fact did not make him respect individual rights. Those who would deny individual rights are to be spat at and damned.
I think that says Steele’s got it.
It would if those around him were formerly Anuzis supporters.
“I called him an elitist.”
Yes, that’s inaccurate namecalling.
He was raised in poverty, spent 3 years in the seminary and has been a Reagan Republican since the 1980s. But because you dont like his position on one issue, you will inaccurately call this man, who is a Republican because it stands for family values and individual responsibility, an ‘elitist’.
Oh and then for good measure you use a Hitler analogy. Phooey, just stick to facts.
This thread is friendlier than the other one — over there they’re just yelling “Steele’s a Rino” and others yelling back “Is not”, “is”, “is not”....
Congratulations to Steele. I hope he can put his unconstitutional gun grabbing behind him, and prepare the party for a strong run in 2010.
He may be a bit more liberal on a few items than I would like but a RINO he is NOT. Now Colin Powell well, another story.
We don’t have to have a raging straight-down-the-line conservative for this position. The Chairman isn’t gonna be shaping policy or “grabbing anyone’s guns.” The is largely a PR job and Steele would be perfect for it.
Steele looking very confident.
He was just “confident” before, now he’s “very confident”?
Get a grip! We are being screwed ten ways to Sunday by Obama and the dems, people here need to grow up.
Yep. He’s smiling away.
Here we go...
Steele 91 and WINS
I did not compare Steele to Hitler. I used an example to illustrate that modest roots do not keep a person from disregarding the rights of others.
He is an Elitist.
