The vote was unanimous. Rod is no longer the Governor of Illinois.
Suicide Watch????
Finally! Some good news!
“You are likely from Illinois; me too and my condolences to you! Tax increase is imminent. Does not look like Illinois politics will clean up any time soon:( “
Condolences to you as well!
So we will never hear the tapes of conversations with all of the rest of the democrats? Are they safe from having their dirty laundry aired?
That is why he is gone, because having him there was too dangerous for everybody else in on it, IMHO.
As one who grew up outside Chicago (in Cook County), but didn’t get involved in politics at all until after I moved out of state I have to say that the prevailing opinion is - exactly HOW are those who care supposed to combat it? Everyone across the country is starting to realize how ACORN played a role in the national election - well, these same folks have been doing this in Chicago for a LONG time now...
To me, it seemed that the only ones who even TRY to get involved in Chicago Politics are corrupt in one way or another. There is no way to get appointed to a board, or elected in ANY position without either being in the Daley Machine’s Pocket, or a relative of someone who is.
The reason many Chicagoans just ignore these things is because, well, what in the heck are we SUPPOSED to do? Have you any clue how hard it is to even get Conservative viewpoints HEARD - much less have Conservatives Elected?
I mean, if anyone there in Chicago still - or elsewhere - really has a good idea of how to stop the corruption that’s been bred into Chicago for the last century or so, I’d love to hear it... Seriously, just what are Chicagoans (and Cook County residents) supposed to DO about it?
Sorry if I sound bitter, but I do get defensive when people talk about Chicagoans, because I still in my heart identify myself as such (it’s a great city with the exception of the government). It’s not as if we don’t care, it’s just that it’s SO entrenched in the city that no-one sees a way OUT! THAT’S why we take a “life goes on” attitude - if we didn’t we’d all go nuts!
Yep, that’s how I see this too... Saying NOTHING about whether Blago is innocent or guilty, he is DEFINITELY being treated as a scapegoat. As if all the problems are gone now because he’s out of office. Get him out of the spotlight, ASAP hoping to limit damage. There is definitely more to this story than we’ve heard thus far, IMHO.
Interestingly, back before the election there were rumors on the PUMA site that said Fitzgerald’s investigation didn’t even stop with Obama, but included problems with Pelosi and Reid - the entire DNC! I guess we’ll see what happens over the next few months. With Hillary as Sec. of State, and Obama able to fire Fitzgerald it will be interesting to see whether he has the guts to really let all the cards fall where they may, or if he will leave Obama, and the DNC alone now.
Adios, Loser !!!!
The Lt. Governor, Pat Quinn is now Governor. You’re thinking of Lisa Madigan, Illinois State Attorney General, and daughter of the speaker of the Illinois House, Michael Madigan. Both are Chicago Democrats. Pat Quinn is a Chicago area Democrat. Need I say more?
He's never really spent much time at the mansion. He resides in his Chicago neighborhood and conducted state business out of a Chicago office.
From Dennis Miller!
It must be tough living in an area with such a bad rep. Of course, who am I to talk? I live in S. FL! Sheesh!
No, I think that pretty much sums it up. I think Chicago is a quagmire, we should probably just pull out.
LOL! Actually, my wife and I did a long time ago. We seldom, if ever, visit the 'burbs let alone Chicago.
Pat Quinn (our 'new' governor) is a Democrat, but doesn't have the aura of the Chicago Machine...yet. Many believe he's the interim governor until Lisa Madigan can run. Once she's in office, with her dad as speaker, the Dems will control the state even more so than today. Coupled with the FACT of increased state taxes coming down the pike (even some Republicans favor an increase), this state is going to be in a world of hurt.
I visited Chicago once (on a stop over taking Amtrak from TX to NYC) and I have never been so cold in my life! I don’t think it’s a place I’d ever want to live, all things considered.
LOL
When I made the trip the station was in a big mall downtown Chi. Mostly I stayed at the Mall but a friend from the area insisted on taking me to see the Sears bldg. I guess it was cool, but it was so cold, I didn’t really care!
Well, that Friday night through early Sunday the hot water pipes leading to our two bathrooms and washer were frozen. This was a first in the 12 years we've lived in this house. The hot water to the kitchen sink, on a separate line, was all right, even though those pipes came up through another outside (West) wall. By Sunday afternoon, the temps had receded somewhat and the water was flowing again. The cold lines never did freeze. We now know to keep all lines dripping during extreme cold weather.
Yep. It can get cold here. But Chicago, being on Lake Michigan, can get some pretty cold winds during Winter, and lake affect snow. I'm 80 miles due West and we get our share of snow, but Chicago can get it from two sources; storms coming from the Southwest through Northwest, or lake affect. We're at least spared that second source. I guess that's something to be happy about...
Oh man, I can’t even imagine it. I’ve lived in a few cold places in my life, but not like that kind of cold. S. FL has it’s issues, but we think we’re freezing when we get to +40!!
Uh ...
Bu-bye, Hot Rod !!!
Gov. Quinn pulled his security detail as soon as he was sworn in. Heard Don Wade ask ex gov Edgar if he thought Blago’s life could be in danger from those whom Blago may rat out. Edgar did not dismiss the danger and in fact sid something to the effect” You never know what people will do and was suprised his detail was pulled”. Is Blago being set up for a hit???
