Al Gore has a new argument for why carbon dioxide is the global warming boogeyman -- and its simply out of this world.
Testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday with yet another one of his infamous slide shows, Gore observed that the carbon dioxide (CO2) in Venus atmosphere supercharges the second-planet-from-the-suns greenhouse effect, resulting in surface temperatures of about 870 degrees Fahrenheit. Gore added that its not Venus proximity to the Sun that makes the planet much warmer than the Earth, because Mercury, which is even closer to the Sun, is cooler than Venus. Based on this rationale, then, Gore warned that we need to stop emitting CO2 into our own atmosphere.
Incredibly, not a Senator on the Committee questioned -- much less burst into outright laughter at -- Gores absurd point. In fact, each Senator who spoke at the hearing, including Republicans, offered little but fawning praise for Gore. Its hard to know whether the hearings lovefest was simply an example of the Senates exaggerated sense of collegiality, appalling ignorance and gullibility about environmental science, or fear of appearing to be less green than Gore.
It is true that atmospheric CO2 warms both Venus and the Earth, but thats about where the CO2 commonality between the two planets ends. While the Venusian atmosphere is 97 percent CO2 (970,000 parts per million), the Earths atmosphere is only 0.038 percent CO2 (380 parts per million). So the Venusian atmospheres CO2 level is more than 2,557 times greater than the Earths. And since the CO2 in the Earths atmosphere is increasing by only about 2 parts per million annually, our planet is hardly being Venus-ized.
Gores incorporation of Mercury in his argument is equally specious because Mercury doesnt really have any greenhouse gases...

The significance of Gores testimony is that the Venus scenario seems to be his new basis for claiming that CO2 drives the Earths climate and, hence, his call that we must stop emitting CO2 into the atmosphere. At no time did he refer to his two An Inconvenient Truth-era arguments concerning the relationship between CO2 and global temperature -- that is, the Antarctic ice core record that goes back 650,000 years and the 20th century temperature/CO2 record. Theres good reason for his apparent abandonment of these arguments -- presented fairly, both actually debunk global warming alarmism. (Note: This YouTube video that I produced explains this point.)

Oedipus. :D Always thought Bore was a ‘mommies boy’.
And he might have been President....Pretty scarey!!
This guy doesn’t know dick about science.
Did sentient life cause the C02 on Venus? Did he consider that maybe Venus is closer to the sun? Maybe Algore can show slides of arid cold Mars and tell us “here’s the perfect climate, just where I want to be.”
Oh, wait, most of what passes for a Martian atmosphere is CO2. But Mars isn’t warm.
This guy doesn’t know dick about science.
Its like a really bad pitcher throwing to a solid hitter. Every time Gore tries to put one over the plate, it just gets knocked right outta the park.
Just when Gore was beginning to be barely noticeable... Now we'll not hear the end of it for awhile.
“This guy doesnt know dick about science.”
LOL.
I’ll go ahead and post it. “You guys our planet’s gonna turn into Venus, I’m super cereal. Why aren’t you guys listening to me.” (brandishing cape)
Greenhouse gasses are a product of Uranus...
Those women like their SUV’s what are you going to do about it?
Al Gore = Cliff Claven
This algore clown came way too close to being President. For all of his faults, Bush x43 was a gift to our nation.
Manbearpig likes it hot.
“Did he consider that maybe Venus is closer to the sun?”
I think you might have something there. I nominate you for a Nobel Prize.
Lost his blinking mind
Claven had a real job.
One day, Algore and Jimmah are going to have a head on collision in outer space ... there will be a small flash, a small black hole and an earthly sigh of relief.
