Hackers Crack Into Texas Road Sign, Warn of Zombies Ahead

Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from changing messages on digital road signs after one sign in Austin was altered to read, "Zombies Ahead."

Chris Lippincott, director of media relations for the Texas Department of Transportation, confirmed that a portable traffic sign at Lamar Boulevard and West 15th Street, near the University of Texas at Austin, was hacked into during the early hours of Jan. 19.

"It was clever, kind of cute, but not what it was intended for," said Lippincott, who saw the sign during his morning commute. "Those signs are deployed for a reason — to improve traffic conditions, let folks know there's a road closure."

"It's sort of amusing, but not at all helpful," he told FOXNews.com.

“Your tax dollars at work” -next to a bunch of guys doing nothing.
“Lane closed for your convenience” -don’t remember where I saw that sign, but it sure was infuriating.

FWIW, this is not hard to do. They are usually unlocked, and have the password written inside the control box.

she was a homeless lady that used to wonder around DT Austin pushing her bike

I would see her in front of Snowdens a lot and the Paramount.

she was old in the 70’s and early 80’s But I was a kid then.

She was always nice and never asked for a handout from anyone but people were always bringing her coffee or food or something.

Fair comment. The Texas Legislature is in session.

It certainly deserves high placement on the list, if not the top spot. :-)

Those signs are deployed for a reason — to improve traffic conditions, let folks know there's a road closure . . . Is that why PennDOT wastes time and sightlines with signs left out displaying the usual nanny-state twaddle such as "Please buckle up" and "Drive Safely?"

Absolutely not!!!! Installing those signs provided needed jobs for Democratic precinct workers and minor relatives of politicians!!!

When did guys start talking in such a faggy way?
Politicians use that "not helpful" phraseology all the time
Tom Daschle was the master of the soft spoken passive aggressive and Harry Reid copies him

Lemon meringue pie with an M80 candle. I await the photos. I know I'm right on this one.

Obama said everyone deserves a slice of the pie.

I guess that includes midgets too!

That’s what happens when you fire an employee and let him/her finish-off the days work.

Thanks for posting the YouTube Evening Star.

I was laughing at this this thread until I saw the video.

Kind of reminded me of another guy who hacked into a transportation web site here in the USA...he’s doing 16 years in a maximum security prison.

Would be an interesting event if hackers joined forces and suddenly all these electronic roadside advertising boards all lit up with negative comments of Obama.

If the MSM won’t broadcast the truth then other sources will be found, the truth cannot be denied.
