House GOP leader to Rush: Back off By: Jonathan Martin January 27, 2009 04:32 PM EST
Rush Limbaugh may command a large following, but his caustic comments Monday about the GOPs congressional leadership have one of the Houses leading conservatives defending his colleagues and offering an unusually candid critique of the talk radio powerhouse and his fellow commentators.
Responding to President Obamas recommendation to Republican congressional leaders last week that they not follow Limbaughs lead, the conservative talkmeister said on his show that Obama is obviously more frightened of me than he is Mitch McConnell. He's more frightened of me, than he is of, say, John Boehner, which doesn't say much about our party."
Rep. Tom Price, who heads the conservative Republican Study Committee, did not take kindly to this assessment in an interview with Politico Tuesday.
I think that our leadership, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, are taking the right approach, Price said. I mean, its easy if youre Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks. You dont have to try to do whats best for your people and your party. You know youre just on these talk shows and youre living well and plus you stir up a bit of controversy and gin the base and that sort of that thing. But when it comes to true leadership, not that these people couldnt be or wouldnt be good leaders, theyre not in that position of John Boehner or Mitch McConnell.

This doesn’t validate Politico’s fictitious headline.
OK I will bite; site an instance you did anything for the people of your party. We have Clowns in the house.
re: If Rush were to announce tomorrow that the Republicans had failed and he was going to form a new party . .
Wow, be still my pounding heart! It’s not nice of you to tease like that.
They are all tools.
Tom Price is clearly gone over to the dark side.
I used to highly respect Mitch McConnell.
Done.
Boehner and Mitch seem a tad WEAK-KNEED!!!
Republicans divided THEMSELVES. You are in a fantasy land if you think this divide is an illusion created by the media. This divide is REAL and created by Republicans like you (and until after Arnold, like ME), who would vote for anybody as long as he/she was a Republican, regardless of how liberal and big-government they were.
The divide is genuine and justified, and you pretend that it's a media illusion at your and America's peril.
Listening to Rush is one of the few positive highlights in this period of gloom and doom (and very cold weather).
Those two “a-holes” in the House GOP leadership don’t know the meaning of the word “leadership.”
And they don’t have convictions that are worth a dime.
MR. Price, if cuddling up to Obambi and cowtowing to everything he says and sticking our noses up his butt is the “right way” — COUNT ME OUT!!!!
LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY you spineless little wimp.
As for your comments about Rush and Sean — let me put this as gently as I can, “KISS MY FOURTH POINT OF CONTACT!”
The GOP leadership is showing its true colors. It’s time for a new party.
Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Ga., did not take kindly to this assessment in an interview with Politico Tuesday.
Looks like he likes his fudge.
I confess this Mr. Price is one district over from me.
I’ve got David Scott(D) in my district. No help there,
so I didn’t waste electrons. I did write to my senator
and ask him to have Tom Price just shut up.
“But you go ahead and pretend that the poor GOP and its idiot minions are being manipulated by Politico..”
Show me where the House GOP leader says ‘Back Off’ to Rush, as the headline indicated.
:)
Obama told the Republicans to do something, so they are doing it.
Too bad Republicans no longer do anything for Conservatives, but at least we now know who they really work for.
Too many of them are bought and paid for, the rest are brainwashed elitists with their noses in the air who ignore what their constituents want.
They don't care...they know they can get by with it because the public is so dumbed down and they will get reelected no matter what they do..unless of course they cross their commie masters.
Face it..the GOP and the Dems are one big show...it was so obvious this election.
You are absolutely right. It is a ridiculous, misleading, and inflammatory headline. Nowhere does the congressman say anything resembling “back off.” He just — rightly — points out that Rush and the congress are acting in different arenas and have different responsibilities.
Sadly, the damage has been done to Rep. Price's reputation, at least around here where folks are ultra quick to bite on agitprop. Look at the article. Politico has corrected their copy and put the retraction at the end.
compromising with evil is evil
