House GOP leader to Rush: Back off By: Jonathan Martin January 27, 2009 04:32 PM EST

Rush Limbaugh may command a large following, but his caustic comments Monday about the GOP’s congressional leadership have one of the House’s leading conservatives defending his colleagues and offering an unusually candid critique of the talk radio powerhouse and his fellow commentators.

Responding to President Obama’s recommendation to Republican congressional leaders last week that they not follow Limbaugh’s lead, the conservative talkmeister said on his show that Obama is “obviously more frightened of me than he is Mitch McConnell. He's more frightened of me, than he is of, say, John Boehner, which doesn't say much about our party."

Rep. Tom Price, who heads the conservative Republican Study Committee, did not take kindly to this assessment in an interview with Politico Tuesday.

“I think that our leadership, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, are taking the right approach,” Price said. “I mean, it’s easy if you’re Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks. You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party. You know you’re just on these talk shows and you’re living well and plus you stir up a bit of controversy and gin the base and that sort of that thing. But when it comes to true leadership, not that these people couldn’t be or wouldn’t be good leaders, they’re not in that position of John Boehner or Mitch McConnell.

Why should any of the politicians worry about what Rush says... unless — they are afraid of him... hmmmm....

Ooooooooooohh! . . I’m sure Rush is quaking in his boots and will take all these attacks under advisement, even Obama’s attacks.

If Rush were to announce tomorrow that the Republicans had failed and he was going to form a new party, I expect it would be the second largest party in the country very quickly. I am tired of the utter lack of fight in the Whig Party version 2.0.

Yeah, that's a smart political move! Let's insult two of the most popular conservative talk radio hosts and throw their millions of listeners under the RNC bus!

I'm sure we'll win LOTS of elections THAT way.

Seriously... is there some kind of drug in the D.C. water system?

Works both ways. The Limbaughs and Hannitys of the world go a long way in crystalizing thought, in pointing out hypocrisy, and for just one example, were MASSIVELY influential generating the opposition to the last attempt at “immigration reform” which BOTH parites would have overwhelmingly passed had not the tremendous uproar been generated by talk radio.

What’s to be gained by “backing off”? Will the Dems like us more? Yeah, that one works really well, let’s try it just one more time, shall we?

“I think that our leadership, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, are taking the right approach,” Price said.

If that's what you really think Mr. Price then YOU are part of the problem.

You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party.

How about you try standing up for the Constitution and let "We the People" worry about ourselves?

Rush is right. The GOP leadership needs to stop being a pack of p*ssies. Grow a spine, or get out.

But when it comes to true leadership, not that these people couldn’t be or wouldn’t be good leaders, they’re not in that position of John Boehner or Mitch McConnell.

And what makes anyone think that Boehner or McConnell are showing any kind of "true leadership?" Perhaps if the GOP leaders did show some true leadership, it wouldn't be necessary for Conservative commentators to take any heat from the Dems.

Both sides of aisle are afraid of Rush, he can pull more strings with millions across the country than any of those suits in washington. If our elected officials talked to normal people everyday, Im sure they would be pissed off too.

Hey Rep. Price, it seems that you, Boehner and McConnell aren't trying to do much for your Party either. At least Rush will fight. All you panzies do is bow down to the Dems and Obama.
