CBS and NBC Minimize Obama's Abortion Funding Order; ABC Highlights 'Brutal' Reaction from Religious Conservatives
Catching up on an item from Friday night, the three broadcast evening newscasts aired virtually nothing on January 23 about President Obamas executive order permitting federal funding of abortions, overturning orders signed by President Bush in his first week in office back in 2001. Both CBS and NBCs White House reporters squeezed in a single sentence about Obamas action during stories about the economic stimulus bill, while ABCs World News said nothing about the orders on Friday.
But on Sundays World News, ABCs Dan Harris highlighted conservative criticism of Obamas abortion decision, arguing that it showed how despite his desire to reach out to people who disagree with him, the new President may find that on some issues, it may be impossible to find common ground. Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi also painted the President -- whom she said hoped not to provoke conservatives by banning photographs of the signing -- the victim of a brutal reaction from conservatives:
At churches across the country, the good will coming from the pulpit to the President seems to be wavering....On Friday, the President signed an executive order, reversing the ban on federal funding for international organizations that facilitate abortions in other countries. The President didn't allow cameras to film the signing, hoping not to provoke anti-abortion groups....It didn't work. Reaction was fast and brutal. Family groups accused Obama of plotting the infanticide of African children. And the Christian faithful say they're now losing faith in Obama.

Funny, when I did the same thing, they denied it. I believe "that's absurd" was the response.
While you tacked a "sarc" to our statement, the Wall Street Journal, without a trace of irony, wrote this headline for their article covering the news...
IOW, Obama showed such tender "sensitivity" -- because he delayed signing his murderous order for a day or two after the anniversary of Roe v. Wade!
The fact that Obama lifted the executive order about abortion should have been on the front page of my local paper. I don’t recall it even being in my paper. People are so uninformed. They’ve been hypnotized by this man, and how can they learn the truth when the media suppresses the news.
Also, the pro-life march in DC last week wasn’t even in my local paper, and we had buses going there from local churches.
If this execrable (there’s a word I don’t use often!) FOCA bill becomes law, the reaction will be swift then too. When Catholic hospitals are forced to close, or defiant bishops are taken away by federal marshals, will the media just portray them as kooks? Will there even be video of doctors, hospital administrators, bishops being hauled off to prison, or will the media hold off because they want “sensitivity” for the pro abortion movement? We’ll see then if the great unifier takes any heat for this, or if his slobbering sycophants manage to deflect the criticism from him.
Liberals make no sense, and everytime I think about Obama and abortion, I'm furious. I have a wonderful 10 month old grandaughter, and she was a person, even before she was born. Why can't they admit that?
“And the Christian faithful say they’re now losing faith in Obama.”
Honestly, what else did they expect? After all, this is a man who wouldn’t “punish” his daughters “with a baby” if either of them turned up pregnant.
Four buses from our church too.
You're right that pro-abort liberals are cold-hearted, but wrong about their being sick.
You see, they don't really "pity" the prisoners at Gitmo. Libs don't give a damn about "torture" of terrorists --or about the "plight" of prisoners in ordinary jails, or about the "suffering" of the "poor" or "homeless," or about any of their other so-called humanitarian causes.
All they care about is patting their own backs by appearing to stake out the high moral ground. (And the moral ground, for them, is defined by the MSM.)
I know, because I was a lib once, and I remember knitting my brows and crying those crocodile tears too. For most libs, it's SELF-deception; for leading libs like Obama, it's pure cynical manipulation of the public's emotions.
The truly ironic thing is that the MSM is in the midst of its own abortion and doesn’t even realize it.
The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy
You must start looking at it from this perspective. The abortion is
1% about “a woman’s right to choose”
and
99% about “I had a right to do what I did”
Hey MSM get a clue. There is a HUGE cultural divide and it's NEVER, read my lips, NEVER going to change, I see no common ground. It will only get worse until both sides find it intolerable.
They support the Illuminati depopulation agenda.
What changed you?
NOW losing faith? Those idiot church goers who voted for the man didn’t educate themselves before they voted! We KNEW he was going to do this. And the FOCA which he pledged to sign will just wipe out ALL of the pro-life gains made in this country!
But sure go ahead and weigh social justice issues vs. life, people!!
The contraception funds which were cut were going to be spent outside of the United States. Can anyone explain how money spent outside of the United States can “stimulate” our economy?
Reaganites for Obama? - Sorry, McCain. Barack Obama is a natural for the Catholic vote. - By Douglas W. Kmiec, Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at 1:29 PM ET
Beyond life issues, an audaciously hope-filled Democrat like Obama is a Catholic natural. Anyone seeking "liberty and justice for all" really can't be satisfied with racially segregated public schools that don't teach. And there's something deeply hypocritical about being a nation of immigrants that won't welcome any more of them. And that creation that God saw as good in Genesis? Well, even without seeing Al Gore melt those glaciers over and over again, Catholics chose Al to better steward a world beset with unnatural disasters. Climate change is driven by mindless consumption that devotes more ingenuity to securing golden parachutes than energy independence.
The end of the Catholic vote - Obama's lead among Catholic voters may signal a profound shift. - By Tim Rutten, October 29, 2008
In fact, nearly one-third of all Pennsylvanians are Catholics, and in recent weeks, McCain's candidacy has received a major boost from their clerical leaders. Last week, Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia wrote in his archdiocesan newspaper: "The transcending issue of our day is the intentional destruction of innocent human life, as in abortion ... [and] no intrinsic evil can ever be supported in any way."Yet Barack Obama continues to lead McCain by double figures in every reliable Pennsylvania poll. In fact, according to a recent New York Times/CBS poll, Obama holds a commanding 59% to 31% edge over McCain among Catholics nationwide. What's significant about that is that at least 50 of the country's 197 Catholic bishops recently have published articles or given interviews in which they argued that abortion, more than any other issue, ought to determine how members of their flock cast their votes. Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput and St. Louis Bishop Robert Hermann have been two of the most forceful voices in this regard, but polls now put Colorado in Obama's column and have him slightly ahead in Missouri.
