Obama Tells Democrats to Drop Planned Parenthood Stimulus Funds After Outrage

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- After a national pro-life outcry following news that Congressional Democrats placed a bailout for the Planned Parenthood abortion business in the economic stimulus bill, President Barack Obama has urged party leaders to remove it. Obama is expected to tell Congressional Republicans today during a meeting.

Republican leaders, including House Minority Leader John Boehner complained bitterly about the plan sending money to Planned Parenthood.

Boehner said there is no reason for an economic package to contain funds for the nation's largest abortion business by qualifying more people for family planning funds under Medicaid.

During a Friday House Energy & Commerce Committee hearing, Congressional Demcorats added a provision in the legislation that clears the way for expanded federal funding of contraceptives through Medicaid for those who aren't even poor.

A Clinton-era program allows states to seek a waiver to offer Medicaid “family planning” services -- including people who are not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. If they seek the waiver, the federal government matches the state funding with $9 for every $1. The panel eliminated the waiver requirement.

Under the new provision, all 50 states will now offer Medicaid “family planning” services (including contraception) with the federal government offering the same $9 to $1 match. Although the money doesn't fund abortions directly, it goes to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion business, which would otherwise have to spend its own money on contraception.

Boehner is scheduled to host the president at a lunch today, where Obama is reportedly planning to tell him that he has asked Rep. Henry Waxman, a top pro-abortion Democrat and committee chair, to remove the Planned Parenthood funding provision from the bill.

Obama is reportedly agreeing to strike the provision.

Over the weekend, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended the provision and appeared to indicate she though children were a burden to the economy.

"Well, the family-planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost," she said on ABC.

That drew guffaws from groups throughout the pro-life movement.

Pro-life advocates say the governmental funds free up Planned Parenthood dollars to promote and perform abortions that it would otherwise have to spend on family planning.

House Republican Leader John Boehner told LifeNews.com he is dismayed about the inclusion of the provision.

"Regardless of where anyone stands on taxpayer-funding for contraceptives and the abortion industry, there is no doubt that this once little-known provision in the congressional Democrats’ spending plan has nothing to do with stimulating the economy and creating more American jobs," he said.

"How you can spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives – how does that stimulate the economy? You can go through a whole host of issues that have nothing to do with growing jobs in America and helping people keep their jobs," he added.

Boehner said that as more people learn about "this revelation about the congressional Democrats’ plans to force taxpayers to subsidize contraception and the abortion industry, the American people" will be upset.

On the surface, yes, it IS great news! However, I don’t trust this bunch of ....... folk.

It’s still in there, somewhere..or it’ll be back, hidden in some other bill.

One step forward, two steps back. He knows he’ll be able to sneak it in there eventually.

After all, most of the American people are clueless as to who and what he really is and what it is he plans to do to “the middle class”.

We already know what all of the tactics that B.O. and his operatives are using against -THE MIDDLE CLASS in general - and Rush Limbaugh in particular, because Saul Alinsky listed them in his books and B.O. taught them to other radicals in Chicago. (Alinsky was Hillary’s mentor in college, so she uses them also).

Read Alinsky’s “RULES” here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/886451/posts?page=61#61
Excerpt:
“Rules for Radicals” begins with an unusual tribute: “From all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins – or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom – Lucifer.” ... Alinsky asserted that he was more concerned with the acquisition of power than anything else: “My aim here is to suggest how to organize for power: how to get it and how to use it.”...Alinsky advises his followers that the poor have no power and that the real target is the middle class: “Organization for action will now and in the decade ahead center upon America’s white middle class. That is where the power is. ... Our rebels have contemptuously rejected the values and the way of life of the middle class. They have stigmatized it as materialistic, decadent, bourgeois, degenerate, imperialistic, war-mongering, brutalized and corrupt. They are right; but we must begin from where we are if we are to build power for change, and the power and the people are in the middle class majority.” ..Alinsky’s radicals found a perfect vehicle for their destruction of the American system and more particularly for taking and maintaining power. That instrument was the Democratic Party. (We all know the infamous “Tax cuts for the middle class” mantra of the Democrats.) In Rules for Radicals, Alinsky says: “Here I propose to present an arrangement of certain facts and general concepts of change, a step toward a science of revolution.” “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it.”

A friend of mine once said they thought Obama would be like Clinton and just go by polling numbers. If so, it could be an advantage.

Undeniable truths about liberalism. These two cover the whole ideology:

1) Liberalism is nothing more than the use of force to make the responsible and innocent pay for the irresponsible choices of others.

2) Liberals promote only those freedoms associated with sexual behavior choices. All other choices are regulated, taxed, or prohibited.

If the pro-life movement is ever to make any really big strides, it will happen under a Democrat administration.

I'm praying that Obama will be the one to finally break the deadlock. He'd alienate half his party, but who knows? Stranger things have happened...

Everybody is on fire about the Freedom of Choice Act that hasn’t even been introduced for this year yet.

I am not going to freak out about that until it actually BECOMES legislation under consideration, not just a theory.

Obama may have said he would support it in the past, even do it first thing, but you know what, Obama says a lot of things. He twists with the winds and could actually be pretty easy to manipulate by Republicans just like Clinton ultimately cared about opinion polls.

Frankly, I doubt he would because he knows it would outrage conservatives like nothing else.

I agree. Just as with slavery a century and a half ago, abortion is an issue that MUST come to a head in order to be resolved.

Yep. This is just a good cop- bad cop ploy.

The Rats packed the bill with all they could and denied RINO input. The provision was nothing more than a negotiating point. Funds will likely be provided in the future.

Even if the ONLY reason he did something right was because he saw the writing on the wall.

There may be even more writing on the wall concerning life issues. One of my biggest fears was that FOCA would sail through Congress and be signed by goulish Obama. It looks like that prospect is less likely. The pro-life movement has a lot power, as evidenced by the following article from late last November:

FOCA's effects seen as dire, but chance of it passing considered slim
It looks as though the dems don't have the votes to ram this through, even though they have solid majorities. They feel the heat from us. We have many struggles ahead of us, but they are winnable.

I am not as encouraged. This bill has outrage after outrage - ACORN funding, funding for failed liberal pet projects, bailing out big state govt budgets, tax ‘cuts’ that are welfare grants. etc.

Shaving off one little outrage but keeping the rest is still an outrage. Dont assume that a few small retractions makes it even close to acceptable.

My message to the Republican senators is below.

Republicans need to FILIBUSTER the big-Government boondoggle monstrosity the Democrats and Obama are planning. Any Republican who looks at this is appalled: - billions in wasteful Government spending that has nothing to do with growing the economy but is 100% about growing the Government at the expense of our fiscal security and private economy.

Without a principled conservative opposition to the already excessive liberalism of Obama and the Democrats, the Republicans will have no credibility in 2010. Now is the time to take a stand and filibuster this bad bill.
There are specific demands that must be made:

#1 - filibuster against any spending that occurs after this fiscal year, and insist spending be done later in appropriations for next year; 100% of spending should be focussed SOLELY on this year and out-year spending should be in followup appropriations as conditions warrant. Why tie the USA to trillion dollar debt now for spending that will occur well after the recession is over?

#2 - no spending unless all tax laws are extended until 2013; in short, by raising taxes in 2010, the Democrats are cutting the economy off at the knees; they are killing, not stimulating, the economy; filibuster any bill that does not include delaying the increase in taxes.

#3 - No money for ACORN, for Planned Parenthood, for general pet projects that simply add to Government spending; filibuster any bill that has offensive, wasteful, non-stimulus spending; filibuster any bill that has pork and earmarks.

#4 - Filibuster any bill that is not at least 50% tax rate reductions, ie, real tax cuts; only tax rate reductions and/or direct tax cuts, such as allowing 100% expensing in 2009 of depreciable expenses, would incentivize the private sector.

Obama and the Democrats are perpetrating a hoax on the American people with their bad bill, and I am counting on GOP senators to lead the fight to expose it.
