Mika Brzezinski addressed her rambunctious male panelists on Morning Joe today as boys and, trying to maintain order, repeatedly referred to herself as Mommy.
Maybe there was more to it than TV shtick. When news was reported of a California town banning smoking in apartments, Mika declared that is a good idea. Mika not only seems to see herself as Mommy, but views the appropriate role of government as playing Big Mommy for all of us.
Mike Barnicle seemed perhaps on the verge of saying that whereas smoking is a repulsive habit, government had gone too far in this case, but got sidetracked as Dylan Ratigan and Willie Geist jumped in with their takes.
The Morning Joe report was based on an article in todays New York Times about the adoption by Belmont, CA of an ordinance that effectively bans smoking in apartments, on pain of a $100 fine.

Mika loves Big Mommy government ping to Today show list.
Actually here in Raleigh a surcharge is added once renters are discovered smoking in some of the larger, higher rent apartment complexes. It’s higher than pet fees which are monthly in many places.
If I owned an apartment complex, would I ban smoking in them, hell yes!
But it’s no place of the government to ban smoking in apartments, even if the owners have no problem with it.
“If I owned an apartment complex, would I ban smoking in them, hell yes!”
And that should be your right, just as it would be the right of people to choose to live there or not, or of another landlord to call his place “Smokers’ Haven” and make it very smoker-friendly.
As soon as our Islamic overlord gets a round to it, universal health care will make us all so responsible for one another, nobody will be permitted to indulge in such nasty unhealthy practices.
Exactly!
She won’t like it so much when the gubmit takes away hair bleach because its bad for you. She’ll have to live with her natural color.
Anyone want to lay odds on Mika smoking when she was barely making it through college, one that accepted her only because of her last name (her own description, btw, not mine)?
These people irritate the hell out of me. In Cincinnati, one of the female news anchors (Kit ‘Self Righteous’ Andrews) goes on a crusade once per year about smoking.
In the 1980’s, she was a certified CHAIN SMOKER. I saw it many times due to my relationship with a roommate of hers.
Hypocrites irritate the hell out of me.
The Fuehrer does not approve of smoking?
The NAZIs used to actually go around taking cigarettes away from people.
The Zero approves of his own smoking, not yours! Mark my words, they will soon ban it on the grounds that all must pay for the medical consequences, and therefore smoking is a selfish indulgence that robs the community of their treasure (and your labor, which is also their treasure).
Only six dollars a carton for cigarettes?
Heck, I’ll take up smoking if they’re that cheap (or make a huge profit).
Anyway, Mika is being an idiot, once again.
Adolf was a non-smoker and he didn’t eat meat either.
Here in Amerika we have people trying to shove Der Fuhrer’s lifestyle down our throats.
Wait until the Big Mac taxes from someone like Bloomberg comes along...
You had to admit, Mika and Campbell Brown are the only two exceptions to the ‘ugly liberal women’ cast.
how is this law enforced..do law-enforcement officials knock on doors and smell?????..what if the leo is congested???..I mean..I know this is more important than stopping rapists, murderers, etc..
As an ex smoker I can’t say enough about how much better life is, but I will not nag and condemn anyone for smoking. Having done it for almost a half century, it will be eight years in April since I have smoked.
