If you read part one of this essay, you know I hate clichés and stereotypes. Theyre the products of hack writers, lazy minds, and innate bigotry. Part one was about how Hollywood looks at conservative America. That is, anything to the right of them is conservative. Part 2 is mostly (except for #1) about how they look at themselves and society.

Number 11 - All military officers are inept kooks.
Number 12: All enlisted military are brutish knuckledraggers.
Actually its “All enlisted military are brutish knuckledraggers and closet homosexuals!”
Regarding #7, I think this is a manifestation of what I believe is a deeply-held belief on the part of white liberals: “non-whites are incapable of accomplishing anything without our help.”

Unless they are (a) gay or (b) taking down an evil superior officer.

Here’s one: Having all movies that depict the 1930s to the 1960s have a sepia tone tinge.Note to all present and future movie makers: those years were not in sepia tone-they were just like today.Try to avoid your film school cliches.
There are a number of Freepers that buy into this one.
I didn’t get past #1 because aren’t movie studios ‘corporations’ which I would consider ‘big business’ so I guess they are what? EVIL?
Hollywood needs to make positive films that help people get though this depressing Obama-depression that’s coming. We need comedies that can do more than get laughs with toilet humor. We need heroes not anti-heroes. A movie about US service men and women who are the heroes they are, will make money. The scripts are out there but the groups that run Hollywood refuse to look at them. Mel Gibson—if you are out there—here is your chance. We need religious films as well. Films about The Macabees and their revolt, about the early Christians, about people who gave their lives to help others. The list is long.
The stuff complaining about all computers being evil and the future being grim is stupid. Science Fiction was mostly anti-science and anti-intellecual from the start going back to Frankenstein. It was always about Things Man Was Not Meant to Know. And fiction about a bright and rosy future is either a) really boring or b) Stalinist propaganda.
3. Neocon. This third one is used by people who usually mean arch-conservative. Neocon means a former liberal whos now a conservative, like David Horowitz. (Neo=new, get it?)Wow, I never knew that.. I had NO idea where "NEO" came from! interesting. Bikk
There are a number of Freepers that buy into this one.I can't speak of those who you are talking about... but one of the best officers (my last squadron commander, who was a major at the time) went out on a limb to assist and help us enlisted... but he was prior enlisted until he was E-7.
