RED CHINESE FL-3000N MISSILE SYSTEM --- U.S. NAVY RIM-116 RAM MISSILE SYSTEM

One of the principle issues that the Chinese Navy has been experiencing in the development of their many new classes of warships is the ability to defend them adequately, particularly close-in.
They have developed verticle launch systms (VLS) for medium and long range engagements, they have developed Phased Array Radars (PARS) and the acquisition and guidance systems for them. They have developed gatling gun Close in Weapons Systems (CIWS), but to date, they had not developed a strong, short range but effective close in weapon missile system that compares with the west.
Now they are devleloping and will be installing a new 24 round, self-contained missile system for their naval vessels.
Take a look. The first picture is their new FL-3000N missile system...the second picture is the U.S. Navy's RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) system being deployed on most of our high valued vessels and those of our allies.

The Chinese System is a RF/IR guided missile with a range of 12-15 kilometers and a mach 2+ speed...very similar to the U.S. Navy RAM specs in that regard. But the Chinese system is fin stabilized while the U.S. system is rolling airframe. Thus, the performance envelope in terms of manueverability in the U.S. system is be more robust.
The other difference is, of course, that the U.S. system is already deployed on many vessels and being deployed on many more, and has already been rigorously tested. The Red Chinese system is new and not yet deployed.
Nonetheless, the progress the Chinese are making is significant and not to be discounted. And the similarities in specification and appearance could not be more obvious.

From their new HUMMVEE type vehicles, to their new Amphibious ships, to their VLS systems and their radars and guidance system, to this new defensive missile, they are gleaning our own ideas and technology, re-engineering them for their own purposes, and then building them with a will.

I have little doubt. Now we can probably expect it to accellerate again under the Obamanation.
The Chinese one looks like a non-functional mock-up, the US system looks like a photo of a deployed system, note the dirt & grunge on it.
But theirs does hold more ammo than ours...
That’s exactly what both pics are...but they are developing it now from a less impressive existing system and are expected to field it in the next couple of years.
OPINION: There's a reason the USA is not mentioned in the Bible.
OPINION #2: Considering the amount of willfully ignorant voters in the USA; I believe that China's military could advance quickly (technology wise) and encounter relatively few obstacles.
Then of course there's the global jihad, but that's another story.
I personally think we are going to be so involved with our own internal upheavel...that we will not play a major part in the end-scene...but we will also have those nukes and may well be left alone to our own devices as the end scene develops in the Mid-East with the other world powers.
As to the Chinese. They are definitely rising both economically and militarily. Read that 2009 update if you haven't and look at some of the other pages on that site. They are building a fighting navy, and they are doing so with a will.
